Working on some organic finishes. When we harvest materials from the farm, we don’t always get straight pieces. But we do want to use everything we harvest out of respect for living elements. So we’re dedicated to finding places to incorporate those funky trunks and branches into our learning center. Like the door frames. And curving bamboo for aesthetic appeal because natural building is only limited to our imagination and perceived time constraints. If we put our love and intentions to creating something beautiful, it will happen. We’re excited to start our permaculture design course this Monday and share these skills!

Estamos entrando en una nueva temporada de siembra, y con ella llega la oportunidad de planificar de manera estratégica y regenerativa.

Sembrar no es solo colocar una semilla en el suelo. Es diseñar sistemas. Es observar patrones, analizar recursos disponibles, comprender el clima, el suelo y los flujos de energía. Es tomar decisiones informadas que impactarán la productividad y resiliencia del sistema a mediano y largo plazo.

We are entering a new planting season — and with it comes the opportunity for strategic and regenerative planning.
Planting is not simply placing seeds in the ground. It is systems design. It means observing patterns, analyzing available resources, understanding climate, soil, and energy flows. It involves making informed decisions that will shape productivity and resilience in the medium and long term.

The Planting Plan allows us to:
• Organize crops according to seasonality
• Optimize soil and water use
• Design effective rotations and plant guilds
• Integrate ecological criteria into production
• Reduce risk and increase resilience

Designing before planting improves yields and strengthens ecosystem health.

In a recent feature, experienced permaculturist Scott Gallant of Porvenir Design shared why Finca Sol y Valle has become one of his favorite places to point students, travelers, and practitioners to in Costa Rica.

Scott describes Finca Sol y Valle as a grassroots, “Piso Tierra” project where permaculture isn’t just theory; it’s lived daily in the gardens, the kitchen, shared meals, celebrations, language learning, and community life.

Today some Spanish students went with professor Anamor to Cartago for a cultural learning experience.

We teach two week Spanish courses in our permaculture farm and offer Homestay accommodations for Spanish Immersion. Anamor and Daniela are two lovely Costa Rican professors living in our community who teach basic, intermediate and advanced classes.
