Guest Speaker – ELCC 55th Recognition
Good day to our dear school administrators, devoted teachers, loving parents, and mart especially, our wonderful little graduates.
Today, my heart is full as I stand before you, I offer my warmest and proudest congratulations to every one of you.
Before I begin my speech, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Floribel C. Flores, and l am proud to be an alumna of ELCC, an institution that has shaped so much of who I am today. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Bataan Peninsula State University, and I am a registered Psychometrician as well, which has allowed me to work closely with people and understand the human mind in meaningful ways. Looking ahead, l am excited to share that I plan to pursue a degree in Law this year, taking the next step in my journey of learning and growth, God willing. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to speak with all of you today.
This moment is very special to me because this school is not just a place, it is my home, my alma mater, and one of the foundations of who I have become. Within the walls of our school, I learned, dreamed, and slowly discovered who I wanted to be. And today, we gather not only to celebrate the end of a school year, but the beautiful beginning of a new journey for these young learners.
This year's theme is: "Filipino Graduates: Prepared to lead with Competence and Character"
But what does it really mean? Especially for our young children.
Let me take you back to when I was your age, little graduates.
I was a curious child, always asking questions, always wanting to try things. I did not always receive awards for academics as a child, but I found joy in simple recognitions like "Best in Drawing," "Best in Coloring," Best in Clay Making.” Those small awards meant the world to me, because they reflected what I truly loved.
Even as a child, I enjoyed fixing things. When something at home broke, I would try my best to repair it. If my mother's remote control would not work in the middle of her "Afternoon Teleserye" I would take a look. If a handle became loose, I would grab a screwdriver and fix it. In those little moments, I felt proud not because I was perfect, but because I was discovering what made me happy.
I also remember the small, quiet moments that shaped me. For me, learning how to write was not easy, especially as the only left-handed person in my family. But my older siblings and teachers patiently guided me, helping me write my first letters, and eventually, my name. I remember opening my lunch with excitement knowing it was prepared with love. I remember my mother drastically fixing my hair and stretching my head, making sure I looked neat and ready for school.
I still remember the day my teacher asked me what I wanted to become when I grow old, so they could put it in our yearbook. Without much thought, I said "an engineer." At the time, it felt like the safe answer, something practical, something everyone would understand for a child who loves to build and fix things. But as the years went by, I began to realize that path wasn't truly mine. I struggled to connect with it in a way that felt meaningful or fulfilling. It was then that I start paying attention to what truly sparked my curiosity and excitement, what I could pursue without feeling the weight of the so-called expectations. I realized my potential lies somewhere else, something that challenges me, something that engages my mind fully, and something that feels like it was truly meant for me. That discovery didn't just change how I think about my future, but it shaped the path I am walking today, guiding me toward a life that feels authentic, purposeful, and deeply, connected to who I am.
Those memories may seem simple at first glance, small moments in the flow of everyday life. But they are the ones that stay with us forever, they shape how we see the world, influence the choices we make, and quietly guide us toward the people we become. It is often in these little moments, unnoticed at the time, that we find the lessons, inspirations, and connection, that last a lifetime.
As I grew older, I realized that my early love for problem-solving had volved into a deeper fascination with the human mind and behavior. Two distinctive traits that I inherited from my father and mother, my father's problem-solving capabilities, and my mother's connection with human relation and interaction. I became increasingly curious about how people think, how they make decisions, and how their experiences shape their actions. This curiosity naturally drew me. toward Psychology, where understanding the dynamics of human thought can inform meaningful interventions. Over time, I recognized that these insights are equally vital in the field of law, where empathy, critical analysis, and ethical reasoning intersect to guide justice. This blend of psychology and law has become the path l am pursuing, one that continues to inspire me as I seek to understand, advocate, and contribute to a more thoughtful and equitable society.
Now, why am I sharing this with you?
Because your dreams may change little ones, and that is okay. You may start with one passion, and along the way, discover something new. What matters is that you keep learning, keep trying, and keep believing in yourself. Remember that being young is not a weakness, your advantage is that every day you learn something new, every day you grow a little more and when we think of the future of our country, we often imagine grand offices, important decisions, and historic moments. But the truth is, the leaders of tomorrow are not born in these moments, they are shaped in the everyday lives of our children. I heard this saying too when I was your age, and now it is my time to say to all the little graduates “You are the future of your generation."
Being competent means doing your best. It means learning how to read, count, sing, dance, and create. It means not being afraid to make mistakes, because that is how we learn. Those small actions may seem simple, but they are what makes a good person. Curiosity drives children to ask questions, to learn beyond what is taught, and to think critically about the world around them. Empathy teaches them to understand and care for others, building communities based on respect and cooperation. Courage helps them face challenges without fear of failure, while integrity ensures that their choices are guided by honesty and fairness.
Having character means being kind, it means saying "thank you," please," and "sorry." It means helping a friend, listening to your teachers, and loving your family. A simple act of kindness, responsibility and thoughtfulness is the very essence of leadership. Leadership is not just about authority, it is about empathy, courage, curiosity and integrity. There are the qualities we can nurture in every child today.
To our dear parents, today is your milestone too. Seeing your children graduate is a moment filled with pride and joy, it is also the result of all your sacrifices, your time, your patience, your guidance, and your love. This milestone does not belong to your children alone; it belongs to you as well. Their success is reflection of your guidance, and today you celebrate not just what they have achieved, but the journey you have taken together. You believed in them even before they believed in themselves, you stood beside them through every small step, every challenge, and every victory.
And now as you watch them move forward, carry this moment in your hearts as a reminder that your love has helped shape who they are becoming. Today is not only a celebration of their growth, but also of your strength, your dedication, and the beautiful bond you share by being their foundation, cherish these moments with them very well.
Let us give our utmost support to these young ones, they are all intelligent in their own ways and it is our duty as their guidance to support them in developing their capabilities.
Each child is different, they all have different abilities, skills, and personalities that will develop as they age. Let us support them in digging and walking their own path because that is how they will grow brightly in life.
Every child enters the world with a unique cognitive profile, an individual pattern of strengths, interests, and ways of understanding their environment. From a psychological perspective, intelligence is not a single fixed trait, it is not just about academics, it is multifaceted and dynamic. Children differ in how they process information, solve problems, and express creativity. Some may show early aptitude in language, others in logical reasoning or emotional understanding. Recognizing this diversity is essential, as it shapes how they learn, grow, and ultimately define themselves.
They all have the potential to grow into a capable and fulfilled individual if their intellect is recognized and their interests are respected. We all play a vital role in this process, not as directors of their future, but as supportive guides who nurture curiosity, encourage exploration and promote psychological well-being. By doing so, we empower them not just to succeed, but to become individual who understand themselves and confidently pursue their own paths.
To our teachers, you are the gentle hands that shape the future. You do more than teach lessons, you teach patience, respect and kindness, you help children believe in themselves, that is a gift that lasts a lifetime. Every day you guide through challenges, celebrate small victories, and encourage them to keep trying when things feel difficult. You see their potential even when they doubt themselves, and your dedication plants seed of confidence, curiosity and courage that will grow for years to come.
Your in influence goes beyond the classroom walls, it reaches into the hearts and minds of each child, helping us grow into thoughtful, compassionate, and capable individuals. The lessons you teach both in words and in example will stay with us, shaping the people we will become and the world we will one day help build.
You never forget your students, you always take a moment to look back and celebrate their milestones. I was once one of your students, and today, l am proud to stand here and say that l am a product of your care, guidance and excellence. And someday, I hope that one of you, little graduates, will look back to our prestigious school, and will stand here and share your own stay too.
As someone committed to advancing both science and the social good, I know that children are the builders of our nation's future. By nurturing their minds, supporting their growth, and inspiring them to lead with integrity and empathy, we are investing not only in their individual success, but in the prosperity and well-being of our society.
As educators, parents, and citizens, it is our responsibility to guide children in developing their qualities. By giving them opportunities to make decisions. encouraging them to explore their passions, and showing them the importance of ethical choices, we plant the seeds of leadership that will grow into responsible, and visionary citizens.
The leaders of our nation are not only those who hold positions of power, they are individuals who inspire, innovate, and care deeply for the welfare of others. Every child has that potential, and it is up to us to nurture it
Let us invest in our children's growth today. Let us teach them to think, care and act with purpose. Because the future of our country is not something we inherit, it is something we cultivate, in the hearts and minds of the young leaders of tomorrow.
And to our graduates, even at your young age, you can already be leaders.
A leader is not just someone who stands in front or gives instructions, a true leader is someone who chooses to do what is right, even when it is unnoticed. A leader is someone who shows kindness, helps others without being asked. Shares what they have and follow the rules even when no one is watching.
Every time you make a good choice, help a friend or care for someone else, you are practicing leadership. Leadership is not about being the loudest, the fastest, or the first to speak. It is about inspiring others through your actions, setting an example, and making the world a little better, one small step at a time.
Remember, leaders can be gentle, thoughtful and caring. You do not need a crown, a title, or a big stage to lead. Even the smallest acts can make you a leader in someone's life. Always lead with kindness, courage, and a good heart. Because the world needs leaders like you, leaders who care, act, and make a difference, no matter how small it may seem.
So always remember; Be curious, explore the world around you and never stop learning something new. Be kind, treat others with love, respect and compassion even in the smallest ways. Be brave, face challenges with courage and never be afraid to try even if you might make mistakes.
And most of all, dream big, even if your steps are still small, every step you take will matter in your life.
One day, you will grow into individuals who will help build a better future, a future that is kinder, brighter and stronger because of your actions, your choices, and your heart. Remember that the future starts with what you do today, and how you choose to be in every moment.
So, for now, I invite all of you, even the parents, to truly take this moment in. Celebrate everything you have accomplished, be genuinely proud of yourselves because you have earned every bit of this recognition. Today is your special day, a day to honor not only your achievements, but also the journey that led you here.
This is just the beginning, many more milestones, challenges and successes await you in the years ahead. Embrace them with courage determination and joy. Never forget to celebrate each step along the way.
Once again, congratulations, our dear little graduates. Keep shining your light, keep sharing your smiles, and never stop dreaming of all the wonderful things you can do.
Thank you and may God bless every one of you on your journey.
