Have you read Prof. Kozicki-Jones’ message to all of us? 💖
"To my unusually brave, hard-working, talented students – past, present, and (hopefully) future: YOU TOTALLY ROCK!
Here’s a song that seems really appropriate and energizing for these challenging days:
“Therapy” by Duke Dumont.
UCR’s motto, “Lucem Aspicio,” means "In search for the light"; together, we’ll find ways overcome any dark moments.
Take extra good care of yourselves, in order to be able to support your loved ones and fellow classmates, & please e-mail me anytime, 24/7, to let me know how you’re doing: [email protected]
You are all my motivation, and inspiration! Warm regards"

Editorial I:
At the end of 2015, after the release of our last issue (Issue number 5, released on October), Gloriana Cocozza, founder and first Editor-in-Chief of the The Cult News, graduated from school, and retired from the project. Before we say anything else, we at The Cult News want to thank Glori for her tireless efforts to make this project a reality, and for all of the accomplishments we were able make thanks to her work. Without Gloriana Cocozza, this project would not even exist.
Now, what’s to come?
Well, after Gloriana Cocozza retired, the crew of this project decided to get together to determine how we might continue our efforts to provide students at Letras a space to publish written works, and after several meetings and much deliberation, this is what we decided:
To start, changes are to be made to the name and designation of the project. Rather than being called The Cult News, starting the 8th of August, the project will be retitled The Phoenix. We decided to change the name of the project because our crew, and last year’s quality survey participants, agreed that the The Cult News made little sense to readers, and carried with it negative, undesirable connotations. For those reasons, the crew agreed that The Phoenix -symbolic for the rebirth of this project- was more suitable. Also, this project is no longer designated a NEWSPAPER. Being that having a newspaper format leaves little room for creativity in the sense of how we want to deliver content, the designation has been dropped. Instead, The Phoenix is now an ONLINE magazine.
This leads us to our next topic. Rather than publishing physical issues of our magazine, we at The Phoenix have decided to keep our project on Facebook platform SOLELY, for the time being. Physical issues are costly and problematic to produce, and in the end we always had problems selling all the copies to cover the costs of production. So, instead, we will be publishing articles written by our staff and volunteer students on Facebook, ON A DAILY BASIS. This will be explained in further detail on Monday, but what readers need to know is that WE ARE STILL, AND WILL ALWAYS BE LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN WRITING, BE IT ARTICLES OR CREATIVE PROSE AND POETRY.
Lastly, we have decided that we will start the project up yet again on the 8th, which is the same day we will modify the TCN page -we even have a new logo for the project!-. On that day, we will publish our first staff-written article, and hopefully things will continue to go well from that point on.
Please give us your support by liking this post, and telling us what you think about the changes we agreed to make.
See you on Monday!
