Health-Related Water Microbiology We aim to keep our members informed on research and legislation related to microbiological quality of waters.

The purpose of this page is to promote and facilitate the interaction between IWA and HRWM members. It is meant for the fraternal exchange of conference pictures, ideas, comments and/or suggestions on protocols, projects, and any other topics related to this field.

Highlights
• 3+ years wastewater surveillance correlated norovirus GII concentrations with gastroenteritis incidence (r = 0.53–0.90).

• Treated effluent dominated river Norovirus contamination (surface Water/wastewater ratio: 0.017–0.035).

• Quantitative microbial risk assessment revealed elevated summer urban bathing risks despite bacterial compliance.

• E. coli failed as viral risk proxy.

Highlights
• Sewer sediments archive multi-year wastewater composition signals.

• Stratified layers provide semi-quantitative retrospective WBE data.

• Organic and mineral phases jointly control contaminant retention.

• Stable chemicals preserved; SARS-CoV-2 signal not retained.

• Sediments extend WBE beyond real-time monitoring frameworks.

Highlights
• Aircraft wastewater surveillance detects transboundary viral importation early.

• Genomic tracing links aviation-derived pathogens to community transmission chains.

• Three-tier framework enables preemptive intervention before clinical outbreak onset.
