In my last post, I shared about the mindset shift that happens on retreat, the moment where something softens, where rushing gives way to presence.

But what happens next, that is where the real transformation begins.

Because once the mind slows down, the body finally has the opportunity to respond.

This is something I witness on every retreat, no matter the location. Costa Rica, France, wherever we are, it happens. The environment may change, but the experience does not.

And it’s because of this:

Your body cannot fully connect if your mind is still rushing.

In your day-to-day life, you’re moving quickly. From one responsibility to the next. Thinking ahead, solving problems, managing everything and everyone. Even when you’re exercising, there’s often a sense of doing, of effort, of pushing, of trying to get it right. Another thing to check off your list.

But on retreat, it’s different.

When you allow yourself to slow down, truly slow down, your brain begins to recognize that it’s safe.
Safe to soften.
Safe to release tension.
Safe to stop doing.

And when that happens, your entire system shifts.

Your nervous system settles.
Your protective patterns ease.
Your tissues begin to glide instead of hold.
And suddenly, movement becomes more accurate, more efficient… and more free.

It’s no longer just about muscles working harder.

It’s about your whole body working together.

This is where the connection happens.

And I saw it so clearly in Costa Rica.

By the third day, something remarkable had changed, the way everyone was walking. Not just how it looked, but how it felt. Women were saying, “My hips feel lighter.” “I feel more spacious.” “I’ve never felt this kind of freedom before.”

And they weren’t trying to make that happen.

It happened because they stopped pushing.

Because they gave themselves the space to feel.

Because they were consistent, moving twice a day, yes—but also resting, laughing, nourishing, disconnecting from the constant input of daily life.

No traffic.
No rushing.
No distractions pulling them out of their bodies.

Just time, attention, and care.

And when all of that comes together, something clicks in a way that’s almost impossible to replicate at home.

It becomes a true mind-body connection—not forced, not chased, but allowed.

And the most incredible part?

They bring that body home with them. One attendee shared that for the first time she quit all the negative self talk that she was so used to doing while she practiced. The voice that used to push and tell her she “should” be doing better, stronger, was silenced.

And I see it. Back in the studio and they are moving differently. They tell me that they feel different. What happened in Costa Rica is now fully integrated. They won’t lose that.

This is why retreat is so powerful.

Not because you need to do more.

But because, for the first time in a long time, you can feel your body and trust that feeling good is enough. That you don’t have to push to create change; you just have to allow it.

An opportunity to return to your life. This will be our theme in the healing bay of Arcachon at our next retreat, October 2-7, 2026 in southwest France.

Everything just unfolded

It’s the morning after returning home from Costa Rica, and as I sit with my coffee and ease back into the rhythm of life; school drop-offs, schedules, responsibilities, I find myself reflecting on something that’s surprisingly hard to put into words.

What happened on retreat wasn’t magic.

It was something deeper. More meaningful. More lasting.
It was a shift.

On our final night, after our last movement practice, we walked to the beach for our closing circle. Together, we shared gratitude for the week, for each other, for ourselves. We released our intentions back into the ocean, shells and coral that had held our energy all week, offering them back with a sense of completion.

And then, on our walk back, something unexpected happened.

A staff member pointed out a mother sloth, her tiny baby clinging to her belly. She was on the ground, something we hadn’t seen all week, and slowly, deliberately, she was making her way from one tree to another.

One woman asked, “Is she okay? The way she's moving....”
Another smiled and said, “She’s a sloth… that’s just how she moves.”

That moment of realization couldn't have been a more perfect ending.
Because that’s the shift.

Not that life slows down when you come home, it definitely doesn’t. The responsibilities are still there. The schedules, the roles you hold, the people you care for… they’re all waiting for you.

But you are different.

The women on this retreat made a powerful choice before they even arrived. They chose to say:
I matter. I’m worth this time. I can slow down even when everything around me is spinning. I’m allowed to feel good.

And from that choice, everything else unfolded.

Over the course of the week, I watched shoulders soften. I watched breath deepen. I watched smiles become more present, more real. I watched women, each with completely different lives, backgrounds, and reasons for being there, come together in support, without judgment, and leave with something that was entirely their own.
And now, even from afar, it continues.

This morning, our group chat is still alive with gratitude. Not because we’re still in Costa Rica but because something within them has shifted. A new lens. A new way of moving through their lives.

The invitation of retreat isn’t to escape your life.
It’s to return to it… differently.

To remember that you can move through your days with more intention.
That you can prioritize how you feel.
That you can take a breath before rushing.
That you can create moments, even small ones, but real ones, that support your well-being.

Just like the sloth… what if you didn't always feel rushed to get where you are going.
You can still get there and get everything done.

But maybe you do it with a little more awareness.
A little more care.
A little more presence.

An opportunity to return to your life. This will be our theme in the healing bay of Arcachon at our next retreat, October 2-7, 2026 in southwest France.

Join the 7 women who have already made this choice for themselves. There are only a few rooms left and you can reserve yours with a deposit today, full details are available here.

Why Our Community Keeps Coming Back

We’re so happy to welcome Alice back to the Move Free Retreats community as she joins us again for Costa Rica this March.

Like so many in our MFR community, she’s returning because these retreats offer something that’s hard to find elsewhere — a space where you can finally focus on yourself, slow down, and let your nervous system settle.

That same intention is at the heart of our France Move Free Retreat, October 2–7, 2026, and it’s why Alice is already planning to join us there as well.

Set on the peaceful Arcachon Bay in southwestern France, this retreat is designed to gently calm the nervous system through healing ocean air, the rhythm of the tides, and the safety of being held by land, sea, and community.

In France, we’ll gather in a beachfront villa where the sound of the sea becomes part of daily life. The Arcachon Bay is known for its healing, ionized air, and simply being near the water has a profound effect on the nervous system — within seconds, the breath slows, the heart rate drops, and the body begins to feel safe enough to actually rest.

This internal sense of safety is what allows real restoration to happen.

Guests are nurtured through exquisite food and fine wine, thoughtfully prepared by a Michelin-star local chef, and days are supported by movement classes designed to build strength, stability, and mobility, always meeting the body where it’s at.

When the environment feels supportive, movement becomes more empowering, and rest becomes truly restorative.

With an experience this intimate, availability is naturally limited. Rooms are already being booked, and you can reserve your French immersion with a deposit today — full details are available here.

We’re so grateful for this community — for those returning again and again, and for the shared commitment to rest, movement, and meaningful transformation. From Costa Rica to France, we can’t wait to keep creating these spaces together.
