We regret to announce that after 6 years, hundreds of families, 2 dozen babysitters, and countless memories, Costa Kids is shutting down operations permanently.
In 2018 I was looking for a career change after 3 years teaching at the local school and managing a catering company. I quit the catering company, went part time at the school, and accepted a request to babysit a friend’s nieces and nephew for one month while they visited. I gave myself that time to figure out what I wanted to do next.
I had so much fun, without the burnout that I was getting from teaching. At the pool and at the beach, other families on vacation would ask if I had a business card. By the end of the month I had noticed a major gap in the local economy: our bustling tourist town needed a babysitting company.
I got right down to it and by the time “high season” rolled around we were busy and hiring more babysitters. The next several years were filled with sunny memories. We served families visiting from all over. Big families, small families, groups, VIP clients, North Americans, Europeans, Australians, and Costa Ricans. Our babysitters made contacts and friendships that will last a lifetime. We went ziplining, surfing, and fishing. We rode golf carts, went swimming, ate ice cream, built sand castles, and watched movies in the Air-con with sun kissed skin. We got to discover and explore all of the best villas and casas along the central pacific coast from Villa Caletas to Esterillos Este.
Managing and babysitting for Costa Kids has truly been the best job in the world.
So why stop now? To be honest, it’s hard to let a good thing go. Personally, I’m no longer in Jaco and I don’t have plans to return. I’m growing a family of my own. It’s become harder to find long term help. It’s always been a one-woman operation behind the scenes and my heart just isn’t in it like it used to be. Sometimes, we must surrender to the whispers of change. It’s important to close chapters and make space for what is to come.
Thank you to all of my babysitters past and present. For lack of better words - I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you to all of the families who trusted us. Thank you to all of our business partners who recommended us and helped keep our business flowing.
