One of the many amazing things we do with our student travelers in Costa Rica is going on nighttime turtle tours. Turtles lay their eggs and hatch all along the coast of Guanacaste, the province Sámara is in. It’s a truly incredible, moving phenomenon to witness. As writes below, the red lights do not disturb them. Even journalists recognize how special this place is!

Repost from - To celebrate the publication of my latest story for magazine focused on global sea turtle conservation, I want to share a video of one of the most epic nights of my life. Working with scientists and conservation rangers we used red light (which does not disturb the turtles) to reveal a fraction of the more than ten thousand of Olive Ridley turtles that nested on Costa Rica’s Ostional beach during single night in 2018. Watch until the end to see the astonishing number of turtles that carpet the shoreline.

Happy Labor Day to all! We know we’ve been on a bit of a social media hiatus, but we assure you we’ve been working hard (at having fun) over here. We just got back to the states from a few amazing trips to Costa Rica. We played on the beach and in schools, we served, we made new friends—and we’ll be back!
