What should you know about Colombian coffee?
Coffee is obviously a big subject here in Colombia.
But that doesn’t mean that all Colombians know about coffee, and it doesn’t mean you’ll get a good cup of coffee just anywhere.
Although coffee quality in Colombia can be quite poor, that’s changing. Now coffee shops selling better quality coffee are springing up all over the country.
If you want to understand Colombia's fascinating coffee history and what coffee means to Colombians, book a Specialty Coffee Workshop with us!
Since 2012 we've been bringing specialty coffee education in Colombia to everyone.

The important moment of appreciating the fragrance...
The coffee introduces itself.
It tells you who it is, hints at what you can expect.
It's an integral part of coffee cupping, and should never be rushed.

Does it rain a lot in Bogota?
Yes, it rains a lot. In fact, a comment you’ll hear often in Bogota is that you get the four seasons…all in one day.
The upside is that usually the rain alternates with sun, which means there are few 100% dreary days.
But even on a sunny day there might be a sudden rain shower or irritating afternoon drizzle.
So I don’t ever go out without a jacket or scarf and an umbrella, since a sunny day can quickly turn into a chilly one. And then five minutes later, we'll be back to a sunny paradise.
One way to beat the rain is to join us for a coffee workshop! They take place rain or shine, and are an excellent way to stay warm and dry.

Should you dress for hot weather in Bogota?
No. And yes.
Bogota is a chilly city. While Colombia is near the equator, keep in mind that Bogota is a high-altitude city.
If you’ve never been in the cold in the Andes Mountains, it’s hard to describe it. At times it's penetrating to the bone.
It can get down to around 40 degrees F at night, which depending on where you’re from, doesn’t necessarily sound so cold.
But you have to remember something.
People in Bogota don’t heat their homes or businesses.
Yes, 40 degrees F without heating. That’s another thing.
You can buy little space heaters – they’re sold all over the city – but the bizarre thing is that people don’t often have them in their homes, and hotels will often not provide them.
So when in Rome…you wear socks to bed at night.
In fact, living in Bogota is the only time in my life I’ve worn socks and sweaters to bed (and I’m from Philadelphia, which is cold in the winter).
Of course, drinking coffee is a great way to warm up on a cold, rainy day in Bogota. So join us for a coffee workshop!

How can you escape the heat in Cartagena, Colombia?
You can expect sunny skies all year round in Cartagena, and temperatures often soar to 90°F.
To avoid the heat of the day, try getting to the Walled City earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon.
Another option is to hide out during the hot hours in the shade of the Plaza de Bolivar, in an air-conditioned museum or at one of the numerous restaurants or coffee shops.
Of course, taking a Specialty Coffee Workshop with us gets you out of the heat - and into the fascinating world of specialcoffee in Cartagena.
