Wuhu tiehua (iron pictures) features Chinese traditional brushing painting, European engraving, and Chinese folk art-paper cutting and bamboo carving. Five students (Dani Allen, Scott Camuto, Brooke Freeland, and Monika Lemke, and Yichong Li ) at McDaniel College are doing research on Wuhu iron pictures in Fall 2010 and Spring 2011. They proposed to work on three individual projects on different a
spects of Wuhu iron pictures to understand the past and the future of the folk arts in the contexts of local histories. They won the ASIANetwork Freeman Foundation and will go to Shanghai, Beijing, and Wuhu to conduct their research in the summer of 2011.
