Experience China: A Journey of Honey and Snow

In order to foster cross-cultural dialogue, experience China and gain a firsthand understanding of its contemporary rural development, a group of our international students went for a study tour to Muyu Town in Shennongjia from December 16 to 19, 2025. The tour centered on the theme of the “Honey & Snow Travel” Agriculture-Culture-Tourism Integration Promotion Activity.

The immersive experience allowed students to engage in local honey production, enjoy winter skiing and learn about traditional tea processing. They witnessed the intricate honey-making process from hive to harvest and discovered how live-streaming e-commerce is strategically used to boost local agriculture, culture and tourism.

This hands-on engagement provided a practical case study in sustainable development. By interacting directly with local beekeepers and observing live honey extraction, the students gained direct insight into how ecological resources and cultural heritage are innovatively fused with digital platforms to revitalize communities and create sustainable economic value.

The experience equipped our students with an authentic understanding of China’s harmonious approach to growth, transforming them into cultural ambassadors ready to share credible narratives of their journey.

Winter Solstice

The Twenty-Four Solar Terms is a unique knowledge system developed in ancient China. This system divides the whole year into 24 equal periods, with each solar term separated by approximately 15 days. Spanning the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, it eventually forms an important temporal framework that provides guidance for agricultural activities, daily life arrangements, and festive customs.

The Winter Solstice is the 22nd solar term in the traditional Chinese solar term system, usually falling between December 21 and 23 in the Gregorian calendar.

It carries both natural and cultural significance: it marks the start of the “Nine-Nine Cold Days” (a period of successive cold spells in winter).
As an old saying goes, “The Winter Solstice is as significant as the Spring Festival”. Across China, people observe customs like eating dumplings or glutinous rice balls to celebrate the occasion.

Tangyuan is one of the most symbolic foods eaten during the Winter Solstice in southern China. A family shares Tangyuan on the winter solstice, which symbolizes family harmony. It’s believed that eating these dumplings brings good luck and ensures a harmonious and happy year ahead.

2025 HBUT Olympic

At the 41st Hubei University of Technology Olympic, our international student athletes delivered an outstanding performance, securing medals across multiple events. The School of International celebrated a rich harvest of honors and prizes, marking another proud achievement on and off the field.

In fierce yet friendly competition, every participant students and teachers alike, gave their full focus and energy. Tracks and fields bore witness to their sweat, their determined strides and their unwavering zeal.

Through sport, the bond between HBUT and the wider world grows stronger a spirited youth forging dreams with every effort. Sweat and laughter intertwined, echoing across a campus alive with passion. 2025 HBUT Olympic Parade

On the morning of November 14, 2025, HBUT held its 42nd Olympic event. Nineteen schools came together for the opening ceremony to compete against each other. 98 international students from different countries, representing SIE, participated in the parade.

The students were divided into four groups for their walk. At the front, one group carried the flags of their home country. They were followed by another groups performing traditional dances, then a team of men with more energetic steps. At the end, a drum team set the rhythm for the march. Wearing a mix of their countries traditional dress, they created a simple, moving display of global culture as they walked side by side. a splash of color and pattern moving together down the path by the Xunsi River.

Near the end, their voices rose together in a chant: “跨越山海，同心同赛” (Kuàyuè shānhǎi, tóngxīn tóng sài). It means “Across mountains and seas, we compete with one heart.”

For these students, the words are personal. They’re about the long journey to China, the challenge of building a life in a new place, and the simple hope of finding common ground through something as universal as a sports game. It wasn’t a grand show, just a genuine moment of shared purpose.

2025 HBUT ”Freshman Cup“ Volleyball Champions

The 2025 Hubei University of Technology ”Freshmen Cup“ Volleyball Tournament was successfully held from November 18 to December 2, 2025, at the Central Playground Volleyball Court. A total of 15 teams from across the university participated in the competition, with Chinese and international students competing together on the same stage.  

Through thorough preparation, the School of International volleyball team demonstrated strong determination, close teamwork and exceptional skills during the tournament. After intense competition, they emerged as champions, achieving a historic result.

The team’s extraordinary journey was powerfully witnessed and fueled by passionate supporters and a dedicated fan base. Their vibrant chants, coordinated cheers, and the steady, driving rhythm of drums created an electrifying court atmosphere that energized the players. Every decisive point scored was met with thunderous applause and celebration, the cheers and drumbeats echoing throughout the court.

The ”Freshmen Cup“ Volleyball Tournament is a key sports event at our school. It helps students grow in all areas, learn to work as a team, and brings the campus closer together. The School of International Education strongly believes in the power of sports to educate. It sees competitions like this as a great way to build students’ overall abilities. Taking part doesn‘t just improve their volleyball skills, it also teaches them about teamwork, cooperation and friendship. These are all valuable, positive experiences that will help them in the future.

Won Historic Silver in 2025 “Hugong Cup” Basketball League

2025 Hubei University of Technology ”Wutong Cup“ Sports Games ”Hugong Cup“ Basketball League was grandly held from October 28 to November 14. Sixteen elite teams from various schools gathered on the court, presenting a wonderful feast of skills and sportsmanship. After meticulous preparation and intense competition, International students basketball team successfully reached the finals, achieving a historic breakthrough for the school.

In the final match, International students team faced off against the school of physical education team. From tip-off to the final whistle, the scores were close, resulting in a fiercely competitive match. The international students basketball team players demonstrated impressive coordination and determination, executing smooth passes and powerful shots that energized the crowd. The cheering drums and shouts echoed throughout the stadium, as the audience continuously cheered for their team. Despite giving their all, the team ultimately lost narrowly with a score of 58:67. However, their performance had already surpassed the significance of the score itself.

The ”Hugong Cup“ Basketball league stands as one of the university’s important sporting events, playing an important role in promoting students overall development, fostering team awareness and strengthening campus culture. The school International has always attached great importance to the educational value of sports, viewing basketball competitions as an important means of cultivating students‘ comprehensive qualities.

The players participating in this event have expressed that this experience not only sharpened their basketball skills but also allowed them to deeply understand the importance of discipline, the power of collaboration and the never-give-up spirit of sports through repeated tactical discussions and perseverance in adversity. These gains will become a valuable asset in their growth journey.

Our international students won the first prize in the Provincial “Inter-Cultural Competence Contest”

On September 28, 2025, The “SFLEP Cup” National University Student Inter-Cultural Competence Competition Hubei Division, was successfully held at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). After a rigorous selection process, three of our international students Makarenko Georgii, Moutaoukil Hayam and Fahmioui Hiba, achieved outstanding results by securing the first prize in the competition.

Through carefully designed cross-cultural case studies and vividly performed situational simulations, our three contestants skillfully recreated real-life intercultural scenarios. By applying cross-cultural communication theories and concepts, they provided insightful analyses of the cultural conflicts, adaptation strategies and communication patterns presented in the cases. Their performance fully demonstrated our international students exceptional cross-cultural awareness, innovative thinking, and practical problem-solving abilities.

Adopting an innovative model of “promoting learning through competition and teaching through competition,” the event stimulated international students’ interest in exploring and researching cross-cultural issues, while also fostering experience-sharing and teaching interactions among universities.

The wind blows from the East and the road opens to the four seas, let us take language as our boat and understanding as our sail, looking forward to the next “cross-cultural” journey.

2025 HBUT International Student School Opening Ceremony Orientation

In October, the River City is adorned with pleasant autumn colors. On the afternoon of October 11, the 2025 International Student Opening Ceremony and Orientation at Hubei University of Technology were held in the library auditorium, marking a new chapter at HBUT for over 200 freshmen from 41 countries around the world.

Wuhan PSB, Hongshan district and campus leaders, SIE staff, ISA Members nd volunteer-team members along with Senior students from 2023-24 classes took part.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Wu Ti, Vice Dean of the SIE. Freshman representative Shammah Favour Aminat, senior representative Fahmioui Hiba, and faculty representative Wu Pan each gave a speech.

Amy Long, Director of the International Relations & HMT Affairs Office, thanked guests and warmly welcomed the Class of 2025. She invited them to serve as “cultural ambassadors” and help shape a “Mini United Nations” rooted in respect and inclusivity. Amy Long urged the newcomers to be curious learners who question and grow, bridge builders who bond Chinese and global peers, and courageous explorers who embrace every new challenge.

“The South Lake water, the Yangtze waves, flow day and night, a song in my heart...” The ceremony concluded successfully with the uplifting melody of the Hubei University of Technology school song.

Following the opening ceremony, the event proceeded to its second stage, the orientation session. To help students quickly adapt to their study and life in China, and to understand Chinese laws, regulations, and university rules, the School of International Education carefully prepared a series of specialized lectures aimed at supporting them as they embark on their study abroad journey and ensuring a steady and successful start.

Finally, all international students collectively participated in a psychological assessment designed to gain a comprehensive understanding of their psychological adaptation status and to provide a basis for subsequent mental health support and services.

The Mid-Autumn Moon is Above us

Over the sea the bright moon rises; at the ends of the earth we share this moment. Tomorrow brings another Mid-Autumn Festival. Let’s admire the full moon together and weave romance into every corner of our campus.

Night falls, evening clouds dissolve, and a cool clarity settles in the air. The Silver River glides silently overhead, a jade plate of moon suspended above us. Some are nestled at home with family, others far away missing parents and friends. Lift your eyes to this luminous mirror; in its light we are reunited with those we love.

The moon floods Mid-Autumn, its pale wash spilling across HBUT, lighting our daily lives and the straight road ahead of us. Gather up that beam of hope and step forward without fear. Stroll the narrow campus paths; waves of flower-scent arrive on the wind.

Listen to the breeze, breathe the blossoms perfume and discover a quiet romance that belongs only to HBUT. We walk quiet paths, look up, and feel close to parents, friends, and everyone you miss.

Clouds may hide the moon for a moment but laughter and friendship stay in the open. By the Xunsi river, under the same old lantern in the sky, we promise: however far we roam, we will always come back to this light.

Zero distance is the tempering in our classrooms, forging the hardness of youth into the backbone of a great nation. Zero distance is the starlight in our laboratories, injecting the spark of innovation into the pulse of the Yangtze.

The national anthem surges in our chests, the flag flutters in the wind; HBUTers stand beneath it, certain we will one day become the brightest constellations.

We measure the distance between dream and reality with the ruler of “truth-seeking”; we fill in the answer sheet of our era with the pen of “innovation.”
