[Alumni update]

Geckos have always been inspired and inspiring! 💪

Coryne Walston (Farnsworth) was a Gecko since 2007. Amidst this whirlwind of a 2020,
she shares her story to spread courage and hope to those who may be feeling discouraged and struggling.

Coryne heartbreakingly experienced 3 miscarriages. Naturally, she and her husband felt an array of heavy emotions. When the couple found out she was expecting this time around, her doctors put her on blood thinner shots for her first trimester. Through love and support, today Coryne shares that they are expecting to meet their baby BOY this coming April 2021.

Thank you for your bravery and sharing your heartwarming story Coryne.

[Alumni update]

Joschua ('19) shares his gorgeous marshmallow views of his current base in Germany. He is studying business and management via distance at HKUST and will be returning to his Hong Kong campus come February.

Joschua’s next stop is Vancouver, Canada where he will be visiting family for the holidays. During his visit, he hopes to meet up with other Geckos based in the Great White North. We can’t wait to hear more stories and see familiar faces!

[Meet] Junie Xia
An SIS Gecko since 2012

Junie graduated from Colombia University, USA, and now returned to China to share her passion for art.

Junie’s work has been featured and auctioned in London. She co-organized a music event in Futian which also showcased some of her latest work. Junie hopes to continue to amplify the joy and magic of creativity here in Shenzhen.

Congratulations Junie! Welcome home. Always excited and proud to hear the variety of passion and interests our multitalented Geckos take on! 🤩

Lotta [Class of ‘20]

Titta, Lotta, and Konsta have been based in Finland's over the summer. Eric travelled from the Netherlands to visit his girlfriend Lotta, and friends at the same time. The group decided to spend their day hiking.

• Konsta is studying Engineering at UBC, Canada

• Eric is studying business in the Netherlands

• Titta will be taking up psychology at the University of Dundee in Scotland

• Lotta will be taking up children's nursing in London

So ecstatic to see Geckos reunited! Hoping everyone is keeping safe and healthy!

Congratulations on a new and second location in Shenzhen for SIS alumni Shirley’s, Morse Coffee!!! 👊 “We decided to open a second location in Kexing Science Park because a lot of our regulars work there and wanted to drink Morse during the workweek!”

Go check it out, you won’t be disappointed. So great to see a small business thrive, especially during times.

We’ve come a long way. Throwback to the first ever SIS graduating class in 2007. All of the graduates: Po Han, In Gyu, Meredith, Kim, Chan Joo, Erika, and Guilia looked fabulous in full cap and gown. Congratulations to Akshay, who married his sweetheart, Louise, this past weekend. Akshay attended SIS from K-G9 (1995-2006) and is now living in Singapore, where he is a surgeon. These past few months, he has been serving on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The couple had initially planned a dinner reception at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore for 150 guests, but the Covid-19 pandemic upended their plans. They still wanted to keep the date of June 20, and miraculously, three days before the date, Singapore eased its lockdown restrictions such that they were able to solemnize their marriage at home in the presence of Louise's family and close friends. Akshay's family could not physically attend the ceremony as they were all in India at the time, however, thanks to technology, they were able to participate in a live broadcast of the ceremony as if they were physically in the same room.

We wish them much love and happiness always!
