A Splash of Pink in Tradition🌸

Our au pair Teresa embraced Hanfu with both grace and playful charm!

Every detail, from the delicate embroidery to the styled hair, tells a story of Chinese heritage. And that bright smile? It speaks a universal language of curiosity and connection.

At WE, we believe culture isn’t just seen—it’s worn, felt, and lived with a smile.🥰

What traditional outfit would you love to try?

In Suzhou, Carving the Mark of December 🍂

This winter, WE au pairs gathered in a Suzhou courtyard to experience the mindful, hands-on tradition of Chinese seal carving.

From holding the blade and planning the layout, to making the cuts and pressing the final seal—upon a piece of blue stone, what they carved was not only characters and decorative motifs, but also a focused moment in time and a tangible piece of cultural memory.

Sometimes culture isn’t just read or heard—it’s felt at the tip of a blade and sealed in memory.

What would you carve if you held the stone?

WE TALK | Marlon’s Cross - Cultural Adventures as a German Au Pair ✨

✨ From the initial stumbles to chatting fluently in Chinese, Marlon‘s Mandarin has improved rapidly — and of course, this is thanks to the help of his Chinese au pair family 👨‍👩‍👧

✨ He says he loves Beijing’s sunny weather the most (because it‘s always raining in Germany ☔️)

✨ His Chinese host mom gave him cultural books, and the whole family took him to 打卡 (visit) Harbin, Xi’an, and many other places. He took beautiful and handsome photos in hanfu with his little sister, but was scared by the bullfrogs at the wet market 😂

✨ Although he‘s a vegetarian, he’s obsessed with stinky tofu and jianbing (who would have thought?). This au pair journey has perfectly unlocked his skills in ”nannying in English + chatting in Chinese“ 😎

✨ China and Germany ”met“ in this small family. He says it‘s been an ”eye - opening“ and heartwarming experience. This journey is a two - way 奔赴 (journey) of food and culture, and a warm connection that crosses borders ❤️

Wanderlust Exchange helps match culture-hungry young adults to individual Chinese families looking to host an Au Pair for 3, 6, and 12-month periods — Au Pairing over a 2-month summer break is also possible! Many Chinese families are interested in hosting native or fluent English speakers in their homes to support their child‘s language development and provide an opportunity to promote cultural diversity and understanding.🌏
