On May 13, 2026, Prof. Daniel Raichvarg (Emeritus, University of Burgundy Europe) gave a lecture at the School of Media and Communication: “Science with & for Society: A Requirement for Researchers and Labs.” He urged a shift from “ivory tower” to social engagement in science communication. Discussions covered balancing expertise with accessibility, and cross-cultural differences. A great platform for our students and faculty to engage with a world-leading scholar (Ph.D., Paris VII; founder of CIMEOS lab; former president, now honorary president of SFSIC). More high-level academic events ahead!

40 Chinese and international students and faculty from Shanghai Jiao Tong University stepped out of the traditional classroom and into the city. Joined by international students from the SMC, they walked through Shanghai’s living history—from Jing’an Global Connect Hall to Mao’s former residences, Zhang Yuan, and more. On May 15, 2026, the 4th Graduate Seminar on Human-Machine Communication took place at SMC’s Multi-Function Theatre.
Organized within the ”AI+Course“ graduate program HMC Studies, the event featured academic poster sessions—offering an open space for students from Chinese and English tracks to share research, exchange ideas, and build connections. Unlike traditional class presentations, the format encouraged cross-thematic dialogue and cross-cultural collaboration. Students greatly valued the peer-driven discussions and global perspectives on HMC issues.

🌍 “Mission Blue Planet” – A Special Earth Day with a Global Touch
On April 22, 2026, international students from 10 countries (Asia, Africa, N./S. America, Europe) joined 4th graders at a Shanghai Jiao Tong University affiliated school for an immersive Earth Day event.
🌱 Seeds of Hope
The event kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony, where students received “growing badges” containing real seeds—a symbol of protecting our planet.
🤖 AI + Creativity
At the AIGC lab, kids teamed up with international students to create animated shorts featuring eco-heroes—like pandas saving polar bears and mythical faeries adding green to the world.
🗣️ Global Classroom
From multilingual greetings to real-world environmental challenges (pollution, melting ice), the children explored sustainability through videos, country case studies, and hands-on art—decorating T-shirts with their love for Earth.
💡 A New Perspective
As one Afghan PhD student Shahir said: “The children’s honest words gave me hope.” A Polish PhD student Anna noted how Chinese kids are becoming “smart citizens”—using tech to engage in public issues.
This is cross-cultural learning in action. The future is in good hands. 🌱💙
