🌱The name of the institute, “溥渊未来技术学院( pǔ yuān wèi lái jì shù xué yuàn)”, draws its origin from the classical phrase “溥博渊泉” found in The Doctrine of the Mean, one of China’s Four Books on philosophy. “溥” conveys intellectual breadth and global vision, while “渊” signifies depth of wisdom and profound insight, reflecting our mission to anticipate global technological trends, identify breakthroughs in strategic emerging industries, and cultivate strategic, forward-thinking leaders with professional expertise, open-mindedness and global perspectives.
🌟Its English name, Global Institute of Future Technology (GIFT), embodies a dual meaning: it represents our aspiration to become a leading hub for academia-industry collaboration to drive innovation, and embodies the commitment to nurture gifted talents through the guidance of dedicated faculty and a supportive, visionary community.
📕The motto of GIFT is: “Profound in Knowledge, Progressive with the Times （溥博渊泉，与日俱进）.”
1️⃣“Profound in Knowledge” embodies the ideal of fostering individuals with not only deep knowledge, but also a strong sense of mission and cultural inclusiveness.
2️⃣“Progressive with the Times” is inspired by the sundial-an ancient timekeeping device that measures time by the sun’s shadow—carved in stone at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It symbolizes our unwavering pursuit of excellence, continuous self-renewal, and adaptability in an ever-evolving world.
Guided by this ethos, GIFT breaks down disciplinary, learning and institutional boundaries to forge an international highland for technological innovation and talent development.
