research team examine how EU battery rules could reshape global green trade

Recently, a research team led by Associate Professor Ranran Wang at Nanjing University, in collaboration with Leiden University, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (
IIASA), and ecoinvent, identified an important shift in global green trade rules —— market access increasingly depends both on meeting sustainability requirements and on proving compliance.

The policy analysis was published in Science under the title "A Brussels Effect for battery sustainability".

The winners of the inaugural ICBS Medals were announced at the press conference for the 2026 International Conference on Basic Sciences ( ).

Among the recipients are Wang Yifang, an alumnus of the School of Physics at and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zhenan Bao, an alumna of the School of Chemistry at and an Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Recently, team led by assistant professor Ke Xiao, and professor Hairen Tan, in collaboration with Renshine Solar, made a major advance in commercial meter-scale perovskite solar modules.🎉

The researchers achieved certified power conversion efficiencies of 24.0% for an 810 cm² aperture-area module and 22.0% for a 0.72 m2 total-area module, setting a new efficiency record for meter-scale perovskite solar modules.

The results were published in Nature under the title "Lead carboxylates passivation for meter-scale perovskite solar modules".

At the International Conference on High Energy Physics ( ) held in Brazil, professor Jin Shan, on behalf of the BESIII Collaboration at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, announced that after fifteen years of sustained research, the BESIII Collaboration identified that the dominant constituent of the X(2370) is a pseudoscalar glueball with spin-parity quantum numbers of 0⁻⁺.

The finding not only provides decisive validation of the theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), but also demonstrates the existence of an entirely new form of matter—matter composed purely of “force”.

Recently, the 20th Training Program for Chinese Language Teachers of the U.S. concluded successfully.

In addition to classroom instruction, this year’s program featured cultural activities and visiting tours, enabling participants to gain a more direct and comprehensive understanding of the richness and depth of Chinese culture.

Launched in 2004, in collaboration with The Chinese Language Teachers Association of Greater New York (CLTA-GNY), has hosted 20 sessions, training more than 500 Chinese language teachers from the United States.

Recently, research team led by Professor Shuo Huang's team from the School of Chemistry has achieved a major breakthrough in single-molecule peptide sequencing with a novel nanopore "chop and measure" method.🎉

This work was published online on July 29, 2026, in the Nature under the title "Sequential reading of a stepwise-shortened peptide immobilized on nanopore".

Recently, research team led by Associate Professor Ruo-Yang Zhang, Professor Yun Lai from the School of Physics, in collaboration with Professor Xiaohan Cui from Southeast University and Professor Che Ting Chan from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, has made new progress in ultracompact topological photonic waveguides. 🎉

The team proposed and experimentally demonstrated, for the first time, an integrated topological photonic waveguide architecture that requires no topological insulator cladding. This work was published in the Nature, entitled "Insulator-free topological photonic multi-lane highways."
