Two main usages:
✅ 1️⃣ without evidence /basis Common collocations:
凭空想象 imagine out of thin air
凭空猜测 guess without proof
凭空捏造 fabricate out of nothing
✅ 2️⃣ appear suddenly with no prior sign Examples: A rainbow
凭空出现 after heavy rain. Success will not
凭空出现 without hard work.
💡 Difference: 凭空 vs 突然 凭空 → no origin / no foundation 突然 → happens quickly & unexpectedly

Sweet corn, tender Chinese yam and fall off the bone pork ribs simmer together. Just simple seasonings to bring out the natural flavor of ingredients. One sip warms your body and soothes your stomach, loved by both kids and adults.

Simple Recipe
1. Blanch pork ribs in cold water with ginger and cooking wine, rinse with warm water.
2. Boil water in a clay pot, add ginger and star anise. Simmer on low heat for 30 minutes.
3. Put in Chinese yam and corn, simmer another 15 minutes with salt.
4. Garnish with green onion and goji berries to serve.

🔥 “同时” vs “而且”｜Do you know the difference?
同时 (tóngshí) 👉 Meaning: at the same time；shows two things happen in parallel (time wise) or two qualities exist together. It highlights simultaneity. 他是老师，同时也是作家。 He is a teacher, and at the same time a writer.
而且 (érqiě) 👉 Meaning: furthermore /what’s more；adds extra information to strengthen the previous statement. Shows progression. 这个房子很大，而且很漂亮。 This apartment is big, and furthermore very beautiful.
💡 Keats Chinese Quick Rule 👉 同时 = two facts exist / happen at the same time (同步并存) 👉 而且 = add new information to make the point stronger (递进补充，更进一步)
Example contrast:
1. 她会说法语，同时会说西班牙语。 (She speaks French, and at the same time Spanish → two abilities exist side by side)
2. 她会说法语，而且说得很好。 (She speaks French, and what’s more, she speaks it very well → further strengthen the prior fact)
📌 Keats Chinese Study Tip Sometimes they can be swapped, but the focus changes.
• “同时” stresses co existence / same time
• “而且” stresses additional, better information
