The IGS school choir was founded by Ms. Agnes Bilowitzki at the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year. She has many years of experience as a professional musician and music educator. Thanks to her versatile training, ranging from early childhood education to primary and secondary school education, she brings broad musical and pedagogical expertise to the choir.

The choir offers students from different cultures and age groups the opportunity to
experience music together, develop their voices, and become part of a vibrant community. As a bilingual and international school, the choir sings in German, English, and Chinese, supporting language learning while building bridges between cultures.

The choir is an integral part of school life and contributes to many events throughout the
year. It provides the musical framework for seasonal celebrations, school festivities, and
special occasions, creating a unique atmosphere. Choir members regularly have the
opportunity to perform in front of an audience and present their musical work.

Rehearsals include not only learning songs but also rhythm exercises and vocal training. This helps students develop musical skills while strengthening cognitive, motor, and social competencies such as concentration, listening, teamwork, and expressive ability.

One of the most special aspects of the choir is the shared moment of singing—both on stage and during rehearsals. When a performance succeeds after weeks of preparation, students feel proud and happy, knowing that their effort and perseverance have paid off. These shared moments of joy create strong bonds among the singers.

The school choir therefore represents much more than a musical activity. It brings together different ages, cultures, and languages and allows students to experience community, expression, and confidence. In this way, it has become a vibrant part of the school community—and truly a heart of our school life.

Our preschoolers had their very first visit to primary school! Together with the first graders, they joined small lessons, explored new materials, and experienced subjects like literacy, math, English, and science.

It was especially lovely to see how confidently they used their German and English skills developed in our immersive kindergarten environment.

A day full of joy and shared experiences! Our campus transformed into a springtime Easter setting with creative activities, joyful games, and musical performances by our children.

Whether it was the digital Easter egg hunt, craft stations, or movement-based activities – the excitement and enthusiasm could be felt everywhere.

A special highlight was the football activity on the field, led by a professional coach from the VfL Wolfsburg Football Club.

The day concluded with a warm and atmospheric Easter fire, bringing everyone together.

At the International German School Hefei, it looks like curious children, blooming spring landscapes, and meaningful hands-on experiences.
 
Our students from Grades 1 to 6 recently spent a wonderful day at the Botanical Garden, where nature became a living classroom.
 
The Botanical Garden trip was a perfect example of what makes learning at IGS Hefei special: strong academic foundations, international mindedness, and memorable experiences that inspire children to grow.

How can children develop a lasting understanding of healthy nutrition❓

This was the question explored by students in the bilingual section of our primary school through a hands-on, inquiry-based healthy eating project, which was initiated by Mrs. Bilowitzki and led by Ms. Dorea Weihrauch.

Overall, the project sparked curiosity, encouraged reflection, and promoted healthy habits. By combining scientific understanding with practical application, children gained valuable tools to make informed choices in their daily lives—an essential step toward lifelong well-being. 
 
This is learning at IGS: We don’t just talk about healthy nutrition – we experience it together. Learning becomes practical and connected to everyday life, supporting our students’ holistic development and engaging all their senses.

On 26 March, we were pleased to welcome Ms Isabella Mao from Cambridge International Education to our campus. It marked an important step in our journey towards becoming part of the renowned Cambridge International network of schools.

✅ Through Cambridge, we will gain access to highly respected qualifications, and join a global network of like-minded schools and a shared educational framework that reflects our core values.

✅ It also creates an opportunity for learners in our English-medium pathway to work towards the Cambridge IGCSE qualification in Grade 10, an internationally recognised qualification with an excellent global reputation.

The accreditation ceremony for the Pearson PEIC International Assessment Centre was successfully held at our school.The event was attended by Heide Schaffer, Head of School; Jessie Wu, Executive President of the School; Hongwei Ci, General Manager of the Pearson English International Certification Examination Service Centre; and Scotty Yuan, Business Manager for the PTE Central China region.Pearson representatives also conducted specialist training for examiners.As the first Pearson PEIC accredited test centre in Anhui Province, IGS will integrate high-quality international educational resources, supporting students in Anhui to connect with the wider world.
