A Grade 4 Student's Reflection on Service and Responsibility

What is the true purpose of education?

A recent essay written by ISA Science City Grade 4 student Prince Wang offers a thoughtful answer.

In his essay, A Warm Feeling in My Heart, Prince reflects on a community service experience where students visited an 82-year-old senior living alone. After learning about the challenges he faced at home, the students worked alongside volunteers to deliver and install a fan, helping to improve his living environment.

One sentence stands out:

"I had this warm feeling, and it made me feel amazingly happy."

This simple reflection highlights an important educational outcome: the joy that comes from serving others.

Four ISA Science City high school volunteers brought English lessons to disadvantaged children at Baiyun Women and Children’s Welfare Association. This is a 2‑month long‑term service, not a one‑off charity activity.
They carefully designed lessons and interactive games to bring joy and care to kids. Guided by our teacher Ms. Riya, they grew through IB Service Learning.
Growth lies in kindness and responsibility, not just scores. We educate capable people who treat the world with gentleness.

Fashion can be creative AND responsible. ♻️

Our G9/10 Textiles students are currently exploring up-cycling by transforming two existing pieces of clothing into one unique new design. Through learning different seam techniques, they are discovering how fashion can reduce waste while expressing creativity.

This is more than a textiles lesson — it’s a hands-on journey in sustainability, innovation, and responsible design.
