Congratulations to PhD candidate Chen Xiuxia, who is a member of the Hunan Normal University British and American Poetry Research Center, for successfully passing her PhD orals! Xiuxia is writing her dissertation on formally innovative contemporary African American poetry, focusing on Russell Atkins, Amiri Baraka, Harryette Mullen, and giovanni singleton.

Insightful article on our most recent event at the Center: a poetry reading and writer’s workshop by esteemed poet giovanni singleton, who is a professor of creative writing in Cal State L.A. Department of English. The article was written by Hunan Normal PhD student Chen Xiuxia whose dissertation on formally innovative African American poetry includes chapters on singleton, Russell Atkins, Harryette Mullen, and Amiri Baraka.
