From a handmade wooden guitar to a custom-built hydraulic arm, an eco‑minded dog bug spray, and a detailed recreation of Along the River During the Qingming Festival, our Grade 10 students turned passion into purpose. These personal projects highlight the students’ IB learning experience, showcasing creativity, problem‑solving, and skills built entirely from the ground up.

This April, our school proudly presents Seussical the Musical, a vibrant, family-friendly production that brings the beloved world of Dr. Seuss to life on stage. Bursting with colour, creativity, and heartfelt storytelling, this joyful musical celebrates friendship, courage, and the power of standing up for what you believe — even if you’re just one small voice.

Led by Ms Morgan, this production showcases the dedication, creativity, and hard work of our students both on stage and behind the scenes. From choreography and vocals to set design and ensemble movement, Seussical has been a meaningful collaborative journey — one that highlights confidence, teamwork, and creative expression.

LEGO® Robotics: Building Confidence Brick by Brick

A spark of curiosity ignited into a full-fledged mission as students prepared for the ACAMIS FLL LEGO® Robotics Challenge. Guided by teachers and fueled by creativity, teamwork and relentless trial‑and‑error, the young engineers coded, built, rebuilt and refined their robots with determination. Each session brought fresh challenges that pushed them to think critically, collaborate effectively and embrace the scientific process. Their dedication paid off—not only in refined designs and improved technical skills, but in the confidence and camaraderie they built along the way. With strong feedback from judges and a shared sense of pride, the team now looks ahead to their next adventure: representing their school in Shanghai this April.

Ami, a Class of 2025 graduate who attended BWYA from Grade 6 through Grade 12, is now studying Business, Economics, and Social Psychology at UC San Diego. Some of her most meaningful memories come from collaborative creative work, including Chinese theatre productions and group activities that brought students together.

Her passion for interviewing people began at BWYA, where conversations with students, teachers, and parents helped her appreciate how different backgrounds shape ideas—an insight that continues to drive her interest in video and storytelling. Balancing this creative involvement with maintaining a strong academic record was her greatest challenge, but one that helped her grow.

At UCSD, she has continued her commitment to Chinese theatre, finding new communities that share her interests and offer a sense of belonging. She encourages students studying abroad to seek out peers with similar passions.

Ami credits the IB Programme for developing her critical thinking skills, equipping her to respond confidently to university level tasks and wider life questions. Her advice to current students is simple: move at your own pace, discover what you enjoy, and trust that the results will follow.

Thanks Ami, for taking the time to share your experiences with us!

At BWYA, children are encouraged to create their own imaginative worlds in every possible way. And no matter how they express themselves, animals always shine as their favorite inspiration.
