The story behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month
📍 Breast Cancer Awareness Month started in the United States in 1985.
It was a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries.
👉 Their goal: to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer.

🎀 The pink ribbon wasn’t always the symbol.
In 1991, the Susan G. Komen Foundation gave out pink ribbons to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors.
That moment marked the beginning of the ribbon as the global sign of awareness and hope.

🌍 By the 1990s, October was officially recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month worldwide.
It became a global movement to:
✔️ Raise awareness
✔️ Encourage early detection
✔️ Support survivors
✔️ Fund research

🍂 October was chosen as the dedicated month because it coincided with the autumn fundraising season in the U.S.
Over time, October became universally accepted as the month to “go pink” in solidarity.

💡 Today, Pink October is marked by:
🏥 Free screenings & awareness campaigns
💪 Survivor stories & community walks
🎗 Fundraising for research and patient support

🎀 Remember: Breast cancer is most treatable when detected early.

What an incredible experience at the Biggest Freshman Event of the Year in Cameroon! 🎉

From discussions on Academic Excellence; making an impact right from the start, we delved into unconventional topics such as sexuality, sexual responsibility, and the effects of sexual irresponsibility on academics. We had the honor of hearing from the WOM President, Ms. Cindy Tchatchouang Cindy Gailord , who spoke the unfiltered truth to everyone present. She also teased an upcoming literary work that will be a great resource for freshmen!

We were also privileged to have Mr. Sombe Simon, who engaged us with a powerful talk on Building a Value System: Resilience + Determination. This session was highly interactive, and participants learned the importance of establishing a value system from Year 1 and reinforcing the positive values instilled at home.

To top it all off, we were graced by the presence of the remarkable Professor Victor Mbarika, Founder of The ICT University and President of the Board of Trustees. He inspired the youth with his story, encouraging them to become job makers, not job seekers.

We also celebrated, as the all-round excellent Ms. Manjoh Sohufee, who was present to award academic excellence. The awardee, the only student to pass her Baccalaureate Exam at her secondary school, truly embodies the spirit of achievement!

It was an intense and enriching moment with participants from various universities across Cameroon. Thank you all for being part of this transformative event! 🚀

What an unforgettable day at the biggest freshman event of the year in Cameroon! 🎉

We kicked things off with Fai Timothy, who inspired us with his incredible "Made in Cameroon" story. He highlighted the importance of audacity, boldness, skill, excellence, and a heart of service on our journey toward financial independence. Tim shared personal anecdotes that illustrated how these qualities helped him overcome financial challenges, even buying a car as an undergraduate. He motivated us to think outside the box and commit to lifelong learning as essential steps to achieving financial freedom.

Next, Bih Ida delivered a fantastic session on networking basics, teaching us the essentials of crafting the perfect elevator pitch. She emphasized the importance of having a 5-second personal pitch ready at all times and encouraged participants to create LinkedIn accounts, engage in volunteering, and attend various events to enrich our minds and professional portfolios. Ida also reminded us that overcoming shyness is crucial for networking success and shared personal experiences illustrating how stepping outside our comfort zones can lead to amazing opportunities.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated! Let’s continue building our networks and creating a brighter future together! 🚀
