Reservoir engineering is changing fast. Data now drives decisions. The question is simple. Are you keeping up?
On March 28, 2026, the SPE Douala Section hosted a high-impact technical session focused on one clear theme:
The session, led by Engr. Abdulmalik Ajibade, Reservoir Engineering Consultant at Beicip-Franlab, France, delivered sharp insights on how the field is evolving and what engineers must do next.
Here is what stood out:
1. Data now shapes reservoir decisions, not guesswork
2. Machine learning strengthens, not replaces, core engineering methods
3. Strong digital and analytical skills are no longer optional
4. Practical tools exist today to improve reservoir performance
The message was clear. Engineers who combine domain expertise with data skills will lead the next phase of the industry.
We express our sincere appreciation to Engr. Abdulmalik Ajibade for a focused and practical session, and to every participant who showed up ready to learn and grow.
SPE is building a strong platform for knowledge sharing, professional growth, and industry progress. The momentum is building. Are you ready for our April technical session? Stay tuned.

Our first technical session of the year was a huge success!
SPE Douala Section 237 is excited to have successfully organized a technical session to examine a timely theme, F๐ง๐ค๐ข ๐๐ฎ๐๐ง๐ค๐๐๐ง๐๐ค๐ฃ๐จ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐๐ค๐ฌ ๐พ๐๐ง๐๐ค๐ฃ ๐๐ฃ๐๐ง๐๐ฎ, ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ช๐๐จ๐ช๐ง๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ก ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐จ ๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ก๐จ ๐๐ฃ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ฃ๐๐ง๐๐ฎ ๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐จ๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ.
The webinar was moderated by Engr. Aben Cistus drew over 41 participants, marking a significant milestone for the section.
The session opened with an HSE drill led by Engr. Cistus, who stressed that neck pain has become a growing concern in todayโs digital work environment. He urged participants to treat ergonomic safety with the same seriousness as field safety and reminded everyone to position screens at eye level, maintain a neutral spine, keep cables arranged to prevent trips, and avoid joining meetings while driving or operating equipment.
The technical session was excellently delivered by Nelson Bah TEGHEN, Geomodelling Advisor at Halliburton Consulting in London. He shared strong insights on hydrogen, CO2, and subsurface energy storage, demonstrating how core oil and gas competencies in the energy transition.
Beyond the technical depth, his journey inspired participants. He graduated with a First Class GPA and served as Vice President of the SPE Buea Chapter. His academic performance, combined with active involvement in SPE, created visibility and credibility, which contributed to securing an internship at Addax Petroleum.
Through active participation in SPE International activities such as PetroBowl competitions and paper contests, he strengthened his professional profile beyond grades. Leadership, consistency, and engagement positioned him for greater opportunities.
A key takeaway stood out. Success in petroleum engineering extends beyond GPA. Visibility, leadership, participation, and consistency create leverage.
During the interactive session, Engr. Cistus raised an important question: The response was clear: geomechanics and data analytics. Professor Kennedy F. Fozao reinforced this, emphasizing that geomechanics remains in high demand.
The Douala Section continues to provide a platform where technical excellence meets professional growth.
Appreciation goes to the organising committee of the Douala section and to Mr. Nelson Bah Teghen for an insightful presentation.
Growth in todayโs energy industry requires competence, visibility, and consistent engagement.
