Indomitable Lionesses star goalkeeper Michaela Bihina has said she and her teammates will fight to make Cameroonians proud, in an interview hours before they face hosts Morocco in the semi-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the Lionesses’ key figures at the tournament, after producing nine saves in Cameroon’s quarter-final victory over 10-time champions Nigeria on Sunday.

Her performance helped Cameroon advance to the last four and denied the Super Falcons a direct qualification ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Bihina said representing Cameroon at the WAFCON is a dream come true. She said determination and good guidance helped turn her childhood football dream into reality, after overcoming her family’s initial reluctance to pursue the sport.

“It is a dream that has become a reality because, at first, I didn't believe it,” Bihina said, recalling how she began playing football with boys in the neighborhood despite the stereotypes surrounding women in the sport.

She explained that her parents initially wanted her to concentrate on school rather than football, but encouragement from people who had seen her play eventually convinced her family to allow her to pursue the game. Michaela Bihina believes her performance against Nigeria was not an individual achievement but the result of collective effort.

“It wasn't just about me; it was about collective effort. We are 26 warriors, so we played that match together,” she said.

With Cameroon now preparing for a semi-final against hosts Morocco, she thanked her teammates, staff and supporters for their confidence and backing.

“We will continue to fight. We will continue to give our best to make you proud,” she said.

For the young goalkeeper, Wednesday’s semi-final offers another opportunity to build on a journey that began with a childhood dream her family once hesitated to embrace.

The proposal to sell a 20 percent stake in FIFA sporting events, including the World Cup, will not proceed, the world football governing body has announced.

The reversal comes as several federations, including UEFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, and AFC, threatened a boycott of FIFA sporting events.

“Having listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place," FIFA added.

According to FIFA, the Forward Enterprise project was intended to provide a basis for further strengthening member associations and sport worldwide, especially in those countries where support is most needed.

Moving forward, FIFA says its intent is to bring all interested parties back together in the coming days and weeks in the spirit of shared interest in our game and with the objective of continuing to grow football everywhere, particularly in those countries that most need our support.
