Last week I was travelling from Yaounde to Buea and I happened to sit beside a young teenage girl.

In the course of our journey,I decided to engage her in a conversation and then she told me her name and her age.

Since it's the back to school season,I assumed she should be going to prepare for school, but then she said she was going to learn a trade.

After a brief chat,I realized she had a guardian with her,so I had to indulge the guardian and ask for permission and equally get more information.

Then I was told that she's in class 4 and unable to read, for a while I felt like I was sitting with my younger version.

I looked at her more closely, shared my story with her of how upto class 5 myself I could not read.

For the next two hours I shared my experience with her,prayed with her, and engaged her in some basic spelling lessons, shared some scriptures with her and I told her the next time we meet she will be reading this and even more

One thing I have realized is that children develop differently, and where science has its explainations, God is still the maker of brains and he has what it takes to make every child apt.

Dear teachers,I believe that our job in this 21st century would go beyond the classroom, beyond the usual.

I remember telling my students about the family and just there I realized family is more than people bearing the same surname.

A family are people who come from the same bloodline and understand that the life of a person is in the blood.

With this understanding,it completely changes how you relate with your brother or sister.

You cannot take away your own life, sabotage or ill treat yourself.

Bring this to the Christian context,we are a family, men and women coming from the same bloodline -the genealogy of Jesus.

Redeemed, washed and bought with a price.
