The biggest Spelling Bee Competition is about to happen in Buea. The ultimate winner goes home with a whopping sum of #200,000 FCFA

It is time to let the public in on what we've been planning for several months now. The maiden edition of Education Without Barriers' Spelling Bee Competition; one of its flagship programs will be happening in Buea in the coming days. Details about registration modalities will be communicated soon.

We believe every child should be able to read and write as it is the foundation for lifelong learning. This competition forms part of our commitment in promoting the acquisition of basic literacy skills which constitute a major part of our core mission. The objective of the competition goes for beyond promoting effective reading and writing skills. It is aimed at:
• Encouraging regular reading & writing
• Expanding learners' vocabulary &
pronunciation
• Building learners' confidence in public
speaking
• Promoting healthy academic competition
• Recognizing and rewarding learners with
outstanding language skills

The 60th edition of the International Literacy Day is being celebrated today (September 8th) under the theme “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity". As most of you already know, the promotion of literacy is one of our core activities and mission. We are committed to seeing children, most especially the most vulnerable acquire literacy skills which is the foundation for lifelong learning.

Since its proclamation in 1966 by UNESCO every September 8 reminds policy-makers, practitioners, and the public of the critical importance of literacy for creating more literate, just, peaceful, and sustainable society. Over the past six decades, countries and partners worldwide have advanced literacy as a fundamental human right and a powerful driver of peace and sustainable development

A child rarely drops out of school overnight.
More often, it starts with a missed day, then another. Irregular attendance can weaken a child’s connection to school and make it harder to keep up.

Yet there are no comparable global statistics on absenteeism, despite it being a critical precursor to early school leaving.

What we do know is concerning. Studies in low- and middle-income countries have found absenteeism rates ranging from below 10% to as high as 30%.

As children in many countries head , getting them through the school gates is only the first step. Making sure they keep coming back matters just as much.
