Quincey and I spent a whirlwind 12 days in Chile earlier this month. There are a ton of photos to share but first, feast you’re eyes on a few from Northern Patagonia (which is really far south 😅) The towns we spend the fist week in were Frutillar, Puerto Varas, and Puerto Montt. That textbook (fairytale?) volcano is called Osorno. Look this place up!

The mountains that line this coast continue to amaze us. We didn’t realize there were so many steep and tall peaks—of seemingly different types of rocks—that rise right out of the water! Much exploring to do here, of sea and land. We understand why sailors are mesmerized by and find it hard to sail away from this part of the world.

We’ve been in the Gulf of California (commonly known as the Sea of Cortez) since Dec. 28th. We’re now anchored in the dramatic and fairly remote bay of Agua Verde. We’ve been blown away by the striking scenes where the desert meets the sea, from the sunsets in La Paz to the rugged peaks of the Sierra de la Giganta. We’re on an extended delivery to get Esprit to a safe and affordable dry storage location on the mainland, so we don’t have as much time to explore this rarely traveled geography, but we’re very encouraged to come back here for an extended amount of time. We’re mountain desert kids with a sailing obsession. Where better to explore than this part of the world?

Do you know someone who lives with Multiple sclerosis? MS is a central nervous system disease affecting over one million people in the US. There are no cures, but there are huge support networks for people suffering from acute or chronic symptoms. Quincey Cummings and I are riding our favorite tandem bike to raise awareness of the difficulties people with MS face, and we need your support. Can you make a donation to our cause? We're halfway to our goal of $500. Anything helps, and thanks in advance.

The National MS Society's vision is a world free of MS. The Society mobilizes people and resources so that everyone affected by MS can live their best lives as we stop MS in its tracks, restore what has been lost and end MS forever.

I'm impressed with the positive reviews of the ski socks coming from QEJA Socks, the e-commerce start-up I've been pouring my heart into for the last three years. I mean, we do make great socks, I already knew that! But we went out on a limb when we decided to use organic cotton for the majority of the ski socks, which means they're the same construction as our crew and ankle socks, but much taller. We did prototype test the ski socks last season and put them through the wringer on freezing cold January days and steaming hot spring days in late April (thanks to the record snowfall!), and our opinion was positive, but what really helped us take the leap was the surprise and delight from our unbiased testers. We also tested Merino wool and different cotton constructions just to be sure, and all found that the organic cotton performed as well or better than the Merino. Organic cotton is not rotten!

We've really made a great product. We've sold hundreds of ski socks since their launch in December. They've been delivered all across the U.S. and a few to Canada, and we've received positive reviews from everyone who has been inclined to leave one. But, the genuine confirmation comes from the repeat purchases by people who also went out on a limb and bought a pair. I know if I buy something to 'try it out' and am impressed/inclined enough to order more, the business has done something very right (because I don't make recurring purchases often!).

A quick note on organic cotton: I referenced "cotton is rotten" above since that's the age-old adage when talking about the material in performance clothing. And I will admit, I've been caught out and very cold when cotton clothing has gotten wet and zapped all my warmth. But, as will happen when you're experimenting with new materials and taking the advice of seasoned consultants and professionals in a given industry, we learned that ORGANIC cotton is a different beast. I won't get too technical here, but the cotton of my childhood and that of my parents is highly processed and stripped of all of the characteristics that make cotton a viable, living plant. Conventional cotton is void of waxes and oils that repel water and make the material breathable. In addition, this makes organic cotton more durable (a huge plus in our sustainability mission).

Anyway, I could go on for days, but I'll leave you with this: if you want to try our socks (and have read this far!), we're running a sale right now. Buy any two Ski socks and add any one Crew or Ankle sock to your cart for free.

And, seriously, if you don't like them, we'll refund your purchase.

Also! There are some great articles featuring several bad-ass female solo sailors, definitely worth the read!

When we had Montecarlo all to ourselves 🇮🇹
By pure luck, we were scouting locations for a photoshoot with our bud .james and , and found ourselves on empty, picturesque streets. Turns out, the power was out in the entire town, which sent the tourists seeking lunch elsewhere. It was like being on a movie set!

We celebrated our anniversary earlier this week (ten years 🤯) on the hook at Santa Cruz Island. We’ve had some rough nights at the islands before, but we’re blessed with a couple incredibly peaceful nights with almost no swell, a gentle breeze, and a wild bioluminescence show! Q dove for scallops with our new pals and .cor who speared a couple kelp bass for fish tacos. Love this beautiful, wild, rugged place

Q and M are off on a delivery! We’re taking this fine gal from Ventura to Stuart, FL on her own bottom, with a couple stops in Costa Rica and Grand Cayman to catch some surf 🏄‍♂️ The owners are aboard for the adventure, and we’re stoked to gain more fishing experience from them. Cruised right through a huge school of feeding tuna yesterday, what a wild sight!
