Avatea School

Avatea School closed in 2015 after arson in 2013. Merged with Nikao Maori as Apii Nikao from 2015. It became Avatea School in 1976.

Avatea School was established in 1914 as the European School by the New Zealand Administration of the time, for government expatriate's English speaking children. In the late 1940s the school was moved next to Avarua School and renamed as Avarua Side School. In 1958, the school moved to Nikao, and it was renamed as Nikao Side School. The school motto is "Kia tito te vaka e aku tamariki" (Children, prepare for the storms of life"

6 years ago you spread your wings and flew to your final destination. A lot has changed since you left. The memories though are still raw. We miss you dearly our Mama Rauraa. We keep the memories of you in our hearts because that is where you are with the blessed hope and promise that we shall see you again. So til then, sleep well our mama and keep watching over us.
