During her internship in Astana, Kazakhstan, Ulpan Nagashbek had the opportunity to contribute to research that supports the future development of sustainable tourism in the country. Along the way, she gained valuable insights into tourism policy, strategy and implementation—and saw how academic knowledge can help shape real destinations.

We’re excited to introduce Mar Morales Blanco-Steger, who joined us as Head of Programme, Spain on 1 July 2026. 🇪🇸✨

With her passion for education and student success, she’ll lead our programme in Madrid and support students throughout their academic journey.

Especially our students entering the third and fist semesters will get to meet Mar when (re-) starting their studies this autumn. We’re sure you’ll quickly get to know her as a dedicated, approachable, and supportive part of our community.

Titles help communicate what a programme stands for and what students learn throughout their studies.

We are therefore pleased to announce that International Sustainable Tourism will become International Sustainable Tourism Management.

The new name reflects the strong business and management components that have long been part of the curriculum while maintaining our commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism development.

Another internship story, another lesson in growth. 🌱

During her internship at Kazakh Tourism, Aruжan discovered that a big challenge for her was building a routine.

Moving from the flexibility of student life into a professional work environment requires a different kind of self-leadership. Learning how to structure your days, stay consistent, and find your own rhythm is a valuable skill that goes far beyond the internship itself.

That’s exactly why the 4th semester internship experience is such an important part of the BSc in International Sustainable Tourism: it challenges students to grow not only professionally, but personally.

Thank you, Aruzhan, for sharing your experience with us. We wish you a wonderful (and hopefully routine-free 😉) semester break before the next adventure begins!

Why are there no foreign languages as a subject?

Because skills aren’t learned only in a classroom.

Our programme runs fully in English 🌍
Students study abroad ✈️
Languages are lived in real life — not just studied.

And yes: learning languages is powerful for your brain, communication skills, and cultural understanding.

👉 Students can also join free voluntary language courses in their 3rd year in Lucerne 🇨🇭 and naturally build language skills while studying abroad.

Different approach. Same goal: global graduates.
