Connolly School’s third-grade students held their Animal Research Presentations today, and we were glad to welcome so many families to the classroom. This event marked the conclusion of a multi-week project where students practiced their nonfiction reading, technology, and research skills.

The students shared their completed written work alongside custom animal models. Each display featured a hand-shaped clay animal set against a colored, pop-up paper habitat representing its natural environment.

Thank you to all the family members who joined us today to support the students and view their hard work.

This morning, Connolly School held their final Books & Breakfast giveaway for this school year!

The students were excited as they picked out books for summer reading, all thanks to the Book Fairies’ generosity!

The room was full of energy as students selected their summer reading books. Thank you for everything you do—we really appreciate your support!

Connolly students want to thank the Book Fairies for providing such a great selection of books, too!

It’s heartwarming to see students pick out stories they can call their own.

This morning, Gribbin School celebrated a wonderful milestone as our second-grade students took part in their Moving Up Ceremony! It was a beautiful morning filled with pride, joy, and a few sentimental tears as we watched our students prepare to take their next big step.

The ceremony featured wonderful student performances, including the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” followed by “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” and “Count on Me.” The morning concluded with the “Gribbin Good Bye” poem.

An event this special doesn’t happen without an incredible community. We extend our gratitude to our families for their support, our teachers and staff for their commitment, our administrators for their leadership, and our PTA for their tireless efforts to enrich our school community.

We also send a special thank you to Ms. Sack, Ms. Patrikis, and Ms. Leogrande for lending their creative talents, as well as to our wonderful second-grade teachers—Ms. Bieder, Mrs. Broglia, Ms. Cutrone, Ms. Fasano, Mrs. Gallo, Mr. Gullo, and Mrs. Van Ommeren—and our dedicated teaching assistants, Ms. Abramson and Ms. Gomez.

Additionally, we extend our gratitude to GCTV for livestreaming the ceremony, and we join our school community in wishing a very happy retirement to Ms. Casciano as we bid her a fond farewell!

🇺🇸 Red, White, and Blue at Gribbin School!

Gribbin School burst with patriotic pride on Monday for a spectacular Flag Day parade! The front of our school was beautifully transformed into a sea of red, white, and blue, lined with flags waving in the breeze.

Students marched proudly to show their community spirit. Our talented students designed stunning, hand-made posters.

Happy 250th, America! The entire school joined voices to sing “Happy Birthday” to America in honor of our country’s upcoming 250th milestone. A huge thank you to the students and staff who made this day so memorable! Thank you to our administration for your continued support. 🇺🇸 #

A full-circle day for the Glen Cove High School Class of 2026. Our seniors took a meaningful walk down memory lane for their annual Farewell Walk.

The highlight was walking the halls of their old elementary schools, where the little ones lined the corridors to cheer them on and celebrate their success. 👏🏼

The journey continued with stops for group photos at the High School, Morgan Memorial Park, and the Middle School. Along the way, seniors had the chance to visit former teachers.

Congratulations, seniors—never forget where your journey started. 🎓

High School Junior Kimberly Garcia Leon recently visited fourth-grade students at Landing Elementary to share her experience living with blindness. The visit complemented the fourth graders current science unit on eye anatomy.

Kimberly shared with the students that she was born completely blind and does not see any light or shapes. She used the visit to teach the younger students about how she navigates the world, reads, and writes. During the presentation, the students examined the tools that Kimberly uses daily, including a brailler and a braille display.

They decoded a phrase in Braille, learned how to write their own names using the tactile alphabet, and asked Kimberly many questions. Kimberly shared that she loves to read, listen to music, sing, bake, and create art using special papers that provide strong tactile feedback.

Thank you to High School Assistant Principal Victoria Franco, and Mrs. Joanna Franzini for their support in making this meaningful visit possible.
Thank you, Kimberly, for being a wonderful leader and sharing your story with our school community.

Our Deasy School bilingual students had a fantastic virtual visit with acclaimed author and illustrator Marcelo Verdad! After reading The Worst Teddy Ever and The Dream Catcher, the kids were thrilled to meet the creator behind the books. Marcelo shared his journey, answered student questions, and even led a live drawing workshop. Equipped with paper, pencils, and crayons, our students unleashed their inner artists—and we definitely have some talented future illustrators in our midst!

This incredible experience (and free copies of The Worst Teddy Ever for each class!) was made possible after winning a school visit giveaway through the Latinx Kidlit Book Festival. Created in 2020 by members of Las Musas Books, the festival aims to uplift Latinx creators while connecting authors and illustrators with classrooms around the globe.

A huge thank you to Ms. Schaefer for organizing this inspiring event for our bilingual classes, and to Marcelo Verdad for sharing his time and talent with us!
