Ritorno was created in 1981 by a group of artists just out of the Academy of Visual Arts in Geneva. Neither Art Center, not as commercial gallery, Andata.Ritorno is an atypical place among spaces for contemporary art, functioning primarily as laboratory for young and less known artists. Since 1981, Andata.Ritorno has organiced more than 200 exhibitions with artists like: Carmen Perrin, Guy Limone,
Hervé Gaumann, Patrick Weidmann, Gianni Motti, Alexandre Bianchini, Yan Duyvendak, Gilles Porret, Qiu Jie, etc.…. The British artist David Mach shows his early work from 1982 on. The writer and critic Alain Jouffroy had his first exhibit “Posages and Assemblages” (“Settings and Assemblies”) here in 1996. Against the general post-modern complacency of a great part of the artistic institution, Andata . Ritorno calls for a modernity yet to come.

Andata . Ritorno a été créé en 1981 par un collectif d'artistes sortant de l'École Supérieure d'Arts Visuels de Genève. Ni centre d'art, ni galerie commerciale, Andata . Ritorno est un lieu atypique dans le champ des espaces d'art contemporain. Il mène un travail de laboratoire promotionnel pour jeunes artistes et artistes peu connus, depuis 1981, avec plus de deux cents expositions à son actif. Parmi celles-ci figurent une soixantaine de premières expositions personnelles: Carmen Perrin, Guy Limone, Hervé Gaumann, Patrick Weidmann, Gianni Motti, Alexandre Bianchini, Yan Duyvendak, Gilles Porret, Qiu Jie, etc.…..L’artiste anglais David Mach expose dès ses tous débuts en 1982. Guillaume Bijl, point fort de l’expo NEUE PROJEKT à Münster en 2007, a réalisé une installation à ANDATA.RITORNO en 1985. L'artiste brésilienne Jac Leirner expose pour la première fois en Europe par
Andata.Ritorno en 1989. L'écrivain et critique Alain Jouffroy fait sa première exposition de «Posages et Assemblages»en 1996. Andata Ritorno revendique une position culturelle misant sur la
défense des singularités face aux pressions des modes
institutionnelles et commerciales en se démarquant dans la
plus grande liberté possible.
