Each year at the IEO, we carry on our tradition of sharing a poem with everyone. For IEO 2026 in Shenzhen, we selected “Courage” by Edgar Albert Guest.

The competition may have been at the heart of IEO 2026, but there was much more happening beyond the exam rooms and presentation halls.

One of the events on the programme was Experiencing Economics, an interactive workshop led by Humberto Llavador, a Tenured Associate Professor of Economics at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and an affiliate professor of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE)

Contestants stepped into economic games, made decisions, competed, experimented, and watched economic mechanisms unfold in real time — turning economics from something studied in theory into something they could actually experience.

Because at IEO, economics is not only about solving problems. Sometimes, you get to play with it, test it, and see what happens 🎲
