⚖️ COUNTERBALANCE – when physics becomes trust
Counterbalance is the art of using two opposing forces to create stability and balance. What sounds like physics feels like something very different in AcroYoga: trust.
The key isn’t strength – it’s finding a shared center of gravity. The clearer both partners keep their body lines, the lighter and more effortless the pose becomes.
How we enter this pose:
• The flyer stands sideways on one foot of the base, with both partners starting upright.
• The second leg comes up to about hip height, with the flyer’s foot positioned between the base’s legs.
• The flyer starts with the body bent, torso turned sideways to the base.
• The base then begins to slowly lean backwards.
• At the same time, the flyer gradually opens the legs until both partners find their shared balance.
👉 The biggest enemy of this pose: bending at the hips. Both bodies need to stay long and engaged. Don’t try to save the balance by folding – trust the counterbalance.
Especially when trying this for the first time: use a spotter! Ideally, one spotter protects the flyer. If you have two spotters, the second can also stand behind the base for additional safety.
✨ Lean. Trust. Counterbalance.
Sometimes stability appears precisely when both people dare to move in opposite directions.
