This comes from “what you may call it.”
👉 You use it when:
You forgot the name of something
Or you don’t know the exact word
Example:
“Pass me that… uh… whatchamacallit on the table.”
🔹 2. Thingamajig / Thingamabob
These are also nonsense placeholder words.
👉 You use them when:
The object is not important
Or you can’t remember the name
Example:
“I bought a new thingamajig for my phone.”
🔥 Key difference (simple truth):
Whatchamacallit → sounds like you’re trying to remember the real name
Thingamajig / thingamabob → more playful, you don’t really care about the name
💡 Real-life usage (natural English):
“Give me the whatchamacallit we used yesterday.”
“This little thingamajig helps fix the door.”
