MSU-IIT IRDA GROUNDS – September 17, 2025 — The commitment to community safety took center stage today as MSU-IIT IRDA, in a landmark collaboration with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Lala, successfully executed a comprehensive disaster preparedness drill and first aid training. The campus grounds transformed into a hub of resilience as students and faculty actively participated in a simulated earthquake drill and vital first aid training.

The event, a half-day session focused on equipping the campus with crucial life-saving skills, began with a simulated seismic event. Participants were guided through the universally recognized "duck, cover, and hold" protocol, followed by a swift and orderly evacuation to designated safe zones. This practical exercise was designed to instill a calm and organized response during a real-life emergency, reinforcing the critical link between preparedness and survival.

Following the successful drill, the focus shifted to immediate medical response. MDRRMO specialists led an engaging, hands-on First Aid Training session. Attendees learned essential emergency techniques, including wound management and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The practical application of these skills empowered participants with the confidence and knowledge to act decisively in medical emergencies.

This collaborative effort goes beyond a mere exercise; it represents a shared vision for a safer future. By working together, MSU-IIT IRDA and the MDRRMO are fostering a culture of readiness and demonstrating that a prepared community is a resilient community.

History was made at the MSU-IIT IDS in Hinaplanon, Iligan City on March 21, 2025, as MSU-IIT Integrated Rural Development Academy (IRDA) students made their remarkable debut at the IDS Research Colloquium 2025. Not only did they participate, but they also triumphed, securing two prestigious 2nd place awards, marking a significant milestone in the school's academic journey.
For the first time ever, nine groups of budding researchers from Grades 9 and 10, guided by their dedicated research advisers Fhelmar I. Rondillas, Luis Bryant C. Canino, and Norman Julian S. Almerol, presented their research outputs. These young Irdanians showcased exceptional talent and dedication, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of academic research.
The spotlight shone brightly on Billy L. Cababa Jr., Gale Van C. Hintacutan, and Wren Yllah R. Sedillo, together with Sir Fhelmar as their research adviser who earned the 2nd Best Oral Presentation in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) category. Their insightful study, "Analyzing the Impact of Perceived Parental Academic Pressure of the Mental Health and Well-Being of MSU-IIT-IRDA Students," impressed the judges with its depth and relevance.
Equally impressive was the poster presentation by Gail R. Duhaylungsod, Christian Lee M. Jumawan, and Princess Jen R. Lapiz together with Sir Fhelmar as their research adviser whose research, "Assessing the Needs of MSU-IIT IRDA," also garnered a well-deserved 2nd place in the HUMSS Poster category. Their visually compelling presentation and thorough analysis highlighted the students' commitment to understanding and addressing their school community's needs.
These students have not only produced their first research outputs, but they have also excelled on a platform alongside experienced researchers. Their success reflects the hard work of both the students and their advisers, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements."
The IDS Research Colloquium 2025 will be remembered as the event where IRDA's young researchers announced their arrival, setting a high standard for future generations and solidifying their place in the MSU-IIT research community. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the school's commitment to fostering a culture of inquiry and academic excellence.
