GREAT NEWS!!! I am happy to announce that Rainbow Haven Beach and Provincial Park is getting upgraded by the Provincial Government. Starting on September 8, Rainbow Haven Beach will be closed for construction. The project will include improvements to the water and septic systems as well as parking lot upgrades to improve vehicle circulation, accessibility, and drainage. The core washroom facility will be upgraded with additional storage space built for the lifeguards. Access to the park will be restricted during construction and the park gates will be closed. During the closure, visitors are encouraged to go to Lawrencetown Beach or Martinique Beach. These improvements will make Rainbow Haven Beach more enjoyable for years to come. If you have any questions, please call my office at 902 406 0656 or email me at [email protected].

It’s been a long time coming but we now have a home base for PACT (Parent and Child Together) right here in Eastern Passage. For over 20 years programs for parents were offered in Cole Harbour with home visits available to our community and a parent drop in on Tuesdays at the Fire Hall. It was a thrill to attend the ribbon cutting at their new location at 1470 Main Road, Eastern Passage, NS, B3G 0E9 today. Phone: 902 434 8952.
Congratulations to PACT staff and thank you for all of the incredible programs offered to parents. See their website for the monthly calendar of events.

HAVE YOUR SAY on PROPOSED PROTECTED AREAS in NS! McNabs Island and Rainbow Haven Beach and Provincial Park are protected lands in NS. We are protecting more land and water in Nova Scotia. These latest proposed areas move us closer to reaching our goal of protecting 15 per cent of the province’s land and water by the end of 2026. Public consultation opened on, August 21, on protecting 5,100 more hectares of Nova Scotia's land and water, including:
- three new wilderness areas
- additions to seven existing wilderness areas
- an addition to one existing nature reserve.

Nova Scotia is home to an incredible abundance of protected natural areas, with an area about the size of Prince Edward Island now protected, and we continue to protect more of our land and water.
Even with our small landmass, Nova Scotia is punching well above our weight in land protection and setting the pace for how provinces can both safeguard nature and responsibly develop land for housing, development and economic opportunities. These new proposed sites build on that momentum and reflect our commitment to protecting the landscapes that make Nova Scotia so special

Nova Scotians can share their thoughts on the proposed new designations at https://www.novascotia.ca/nse/protectedareas/ until October 20, 2026.

Infrastructure removal work in Eastern Passage

August 19, 2026 – Eastern Passage, N.S. – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Members of the public are advised that four large fuel tanks will be deconstructed and removed from Department of National Defence (DND) property at 1350 Main Road in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia, beginning the week of August 17-21 until late October 2026. Residents may notice a temporary increase in truck traffic (2-4 trucks per day) during this time as material is removed from the site.

In March 2026, DND acquired 1350 and 1356 Main Road from the former owner and operator, Valero Energy Corporation. Prior to Valero’s acquisition of the Texaco Refinery site, it operated as an oil refinery from 1964 to 1997 and later operated as a fuel and petroleum distribution and storage facility until 2017. The site has undergone remediation activities; however, some infrastructure remains from the site's previous distribution and storage activities.

As part of DND’s Land Purchase Agreement, removal of the remaining fuel tanks and smaller support structures is being coordinated through the previous owner with oversight from DND infrastructure specialists. Any inconvenience to the public is regretted.

This property was acquired to provide additional flexibility to support future Royal Canadian Navy and DND infrastructure and operational requirements in the Halifax region such as warehousing and refueling. Planning for the long-term use of the site is ongoing.

Location of fuel tanks to be removed at 1350 Main Road, Eastern Passage
