The event is designed to help newcomer professionals, students and job transitioners better understand the role and value of the skilled trades in Canada, create awareness about the blue collar space, while addressing cultural perceptions that may discourage individuals from considering trades as a viable and rewarding career path.

𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭.

They are navigating systems that were not designed with their reality in mind.

The issue is not potential. It is access, visibility, guidance, networks, financial support, and the opportunity to see a clear path from education to employment.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹.

When first generation students are less likely to complete a degree, when Black and Indigenous students continue to face compounding barriers, and when early investment in student support can produce significant long term returns, we have to ask a different question.

Not, “Why aren’t these students succeeding?”

But, “What are we doing to make success more accessible?”

At Student Catalyst Gateway, this is the gap we are committed to closing.
Because talent exists everywhere.

𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁.

The future of Canada depends on ensuring that students are not simply admitted into systems, but are equipped to navigate them, build meaningful networks, access opportunity, and see themselves reflected in the future they are working toward.

𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲. 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀.

What would change if we stopped asking students to figure it out alone and started building systems that intentionally connect talent to opportunity?

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺!

At Student Catalyst Gateway, we built something different. Through our Outreach Cook Program, we hire cooks directly, as our own employees, and place them at charitable organizations and agencies to deliver culturally grounded food programming.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁.
💠 As employer of record, SCG provides a formal employment relationship, full payroll and HR support.

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱.
💠 No Canadian work history? We help you create it.
💠 No documentation? We provide it.
💠 No recognized pathway forward? We build one.

This isn’t charity. It’s infrastructure. We took community cooking, an area too often overlooked, and turned it into a solution.

The leadership insight underneath all of this: the biggest barrier facing skilled and capable newcomers usually isn’t ability. It’s recognition. Build the recognition, and the ability was already there.

This is one pilot. It won’t stay one pilot. What works for a Program Cook can work for dozens of other roles facing the same gap. When people contribute fully, Canada succeeds. This is what that looks like in practice, one job, one paycheck, one pathway forward.

Repost if you believe employment can be a pathway, not just a paycheck.
Follow for more on equity, employment, and building systems that actually work for the people they’re meant to serve.

It’s FREE ❗ No catch. No credit card. Just a course that helps you chart your path, lead with clarity, and thrive with confidence.

We created this because when our Chairman and Executive Director came to Canada from Trinidad and Tobago, nobody handed her a compass.

She found her way slowly. Mistake by mistake. Mentor by mentor. Door by closed door, until one opened.
She remembers what it felt like to want direction and not know where to find it.

So inspired by her, we built the module she wished someone had given her: Career Compass and Leadership Insights.

Self Discovery. Career Direction. Leadership Style.

In just 60 minutes, self paced, you will:
🔷 Uncover your values and strengths with our Self Discovery Toolkit

🔷 Hold up the Leadership Style Mirror and see how you actually lead

🔷 Walk away with a mini career and leadership action plan you can use tomorrow

🔷 Move through seven chapters and twenty one lessons

🔷 Earn a certificate at the end

All of it free. All of it yours.

The room was full. The energy was real. The conversations were necessary.

On Saturday we brought together students, newcomers, and professionals for Beyond the Resume at the University of Manitoba. Because knowing how hiring actually works in Canada changes everything.

We talked about what employers are really looking for. What nobody tells you in a classroom. How to navigate a system that was not built with everyone in mind.

This is why Student Catalyst Gateway exists.

To the panellists who showed up and shared without holding back. To every person who came through that door ready to learn and connect. Thank you.

We are just getting started. 🎓

What a way to mark a first!

This past Saturday, SCG hosted our very first in-person event, “Beyond the Resume: How Hiring Really Works in Canada,” in partnership with the Rotary Club of Winnipeg Golden, and it exceeded every expectation.

To everyone who showed up, leaned in, and engaged in real conversation about creating opportunities and building pathways for equity-deserving youth: thank you. This is exactly the kind of community energy that turns ideas into impact.

Great conversations. New ideas. Stronger partnerships. This is just the beginning.

Pictures coming soon. Stay tuned.

Together, we create opportunities.
