Today is Red Dress Day. May 5.

On this day, we honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People across Canada and to recommit to the work of justice.

Red Dress Day began with the REDress Project, created by Mรฉtis artist Jaime Black in 2010. Red dresses are hung in trees, draped from windows, worn as earrings each empty dress a powerful visual reminder of a life that should still be present.
Between 2009 and 2021, the rate of homicide against Indigenous women and girls was six times higher than the rate for non-Indigenous women and girls. The red dress represents both vitality and violence and the lifeblood that connects all of us.

At Student Catalyst Gateway, we believe equitable futures are impossible without safety, dignity, and belonging for Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people. Today we pause. We remember. We listen. And we recommit.

Wear red. Attend a local vigil. Amplify Indigenous voices with consent. And write to your elected officials demanding full implementation of the 231 Calls for Justice.

Today and every day say their names.

Meet Angus Chan, Director, Resource Development and Innovation at Student Catalyst Gateway.

Angus is a holistic educator and instructional designer who brings something rare to the table: he knows what it feels like to be the student the system overlooked.

As a neurodivergent learner, his personal experience shapes every learning environment he creates.

His approach is reciprocal. Learning flows both ways, between instructor and student, and every space he designs reflects that belief.

With an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from Simon Fraser University and a practice rooted in cultural identity, holistic wellness, and inclusive design, Angus is the kind of builder SCG needs.

We are building something different here. And it starts with having the right people in the room.
