Time for some myth-busting during Winter Tire Awareness Week!

Myth 1: All-season tires are sufficient for winter driving.
Reality: Tests repeatedly show winter tires stop much faster on ice.

Myth 2: All-Wheel-Drive and 4-Wheel-Drive vehicles don’t need winter tires.
Reality: AWD and 4WD help with acceleration, not braking or turning corners. Winter tires are still essential for safety.

Myth 3: You only need two winter tires on your vehicle.
Reality: A full set of four matching winter tires is necessary for safety and control.

Whew! Now we are all in the know. wants to help make winter tires an affordable purchase for you and your family by offering low-interest financing of up to $2,000 per vehicle towards the purchase of winter tires. Get all the info on our website: mpi.mb.ca/winter-tire-program.

Making it easy! has launched Licence Lookup, a tool that gives businesses, organizations, and Manitobans a new online option for MPI services.

Licence Lookup allows employers and non-profit agencies to ensure they have licensed drivers on the road. It also allows any person who wishes to lend their vehicle a chance to ensure that person has a valid licence. Keeping suspended drivers off the road benefits all Manitobans as our data shows suspended drivers and drivers with past suspensions are more likely to be involved in fatal collisions.

The tool replaces an in person, paper-based process, making Licence Lookup a more efficient way for Manitobans to do business. The tool only looks up licence numbers, no names or addresses. No personal information is provided.

School zone is back!

In a few days, those bright yellow buses will be back on the road transporting young Manitobans to and from school. While many parents jump for joy, many motorists get frustrated or impatient. Stopping at least five metres behind a school bus when the upper red lights are flashing and the stop sign is open is for everyone’s safety. Do not proceed until the lights turn off and the stop sign closes. Stay alert!

The Importance of Trip Planning.

🚗 Heading out on the road for the first time alone or just moved to the area? Trip planning is your best friend for a smooth, stress-free drive!
Here is how planning helps you drive with confidence:

1. Know where you are going: Apps like Google Maps and Waze are super handy! Check your route before you leave to know which roads to take and what turns are coming up.

2. Speed limits and driving rules: Every area is different. Google Maps can show speed limits, and you can use these tools to check for things like special turns or local traffic rules—no surprises!

3. Watch out for construction zones: Both Google Maps and Waze will let you know if there is roadwork or closures that could slow you down or change your route. A quick check saves you time and avoids confusion.

4. Keep an eye on special spots: School zones, one-way streets, and places with tricky turns can pop up. If you check ahead, you will handle them like a pro!

A few minutes of trip planning can help you feel more confident, keep you safe, and make your drive more enjoyable. Do you have questions about driving in Manitoba or using a navigation app? Drop them in the comments below!

Drive safely and enjoy the ride! 🚗💡

Bright is better! Daytime running lights are required 24 hours a day for you to see and be seen. Remember, though, daytime lights don’t mean your taillights are on. When driving in low light or in poor visibility, turn on your lights so your taillights are lit up and those behind you know you are there.

How tempting it is to gather your people the second you get your license and drive to the location you have planned together for so long.
🚗💨 But new drivers, listen up! That excitement can quickly turn into pressure to make risky choices behind the wheel.

Remember:
• Your license is a privilege, not a right
• It is okay to say NO to situations that
make you uncomfortable
• Your safety (and others) is always
more important than looking “sick”
• Agree with your friends before
driving to have your back

New drivers in Manitoba: You have worked hard for that license. Don’t let peer pressure jeopardize it or put lives at risk. Make smart choices, set boundaries, and enjoy the freedom of driving responsibly. Your future self will thank you!

The greatest strength of a good teacher is their ability to connect with students, foster an inclusive learning environment, and inspire continuous learning.
As a driving instructor, I aim to be the best teacher possible to my students; I also recognize the importance of the support students get at home, aka co-pilots.
When students are allowed to practice between lessons, their progress is great. They come to our lessons with questions and interests, turning them into fun and engaging experiences.
I would like to thank the parents/ co-pilots who allowed me to participate in this milestone and for helping them shape their young drivers.
When things are unclear, and you are unsure what to do or say to your young driver, I am happy to help. Shoot me a text or pick up the phone. All questions and concerns are welcome.
Sincerely,
Meytal

60 Second Driver - Default Speed Limits 12/29/2024

To my fellow drivers and young drivers
🚗💨 What is Safe Speed?

Safe speed allows you to stop safely in emergencies.
Poor driving conditions will require you to drive more slowly. You should not exceed the posted maximum speed limit at any time.
Driving safely can also mean not moving too slowly. You should not drive at such a slow speed that you hold back or block the normal and reasonable traffic flow.

60 seconds driver video link:

60 Second Driver - Default Speed Limits Speeding is one of the leading causes of collisions in Manitoba.Speed limit signs are not displayed on all Manitoba roads. If there is no sign, you must obey...

Imagine this: a cozy living room twinkling with holiday lights. The camera zooms in on a frazzled Granddad surrounded by wrapping paper, half-assembled toys, and a long list of gift ideas.

[Daughter]: (cheerfully) Hi Dad, how are you today?

[Granddad]: (frantically) I am hanging in there! But let me tell you, the holidays are creeping up on me like a cat on a laser pointer! I am completely stumped on what to get the grandkids. I have ideas scribbled everywhere—on napkins, receipts, and even the back of my grocery list!

[Daughter]: (laughing) Sounds like you need a holiday miracle! Do you have any bright ideas yet?

[Granddad]: (dramatically) I thought about getting them a puppy, but I am pretty sure Grandma would have my head! Then I considered a trampoline—until I remembered the last time we had one. Let’s say the neighbours are still talking about that incident!

[Daughter]: (sighs) Right? So, it's funny you mention gifts—I have a great idea! Meytal, the local Class 5 driving instructor, offers fantastic package deals on driving lessons.

[Granddad]: (intrigued) Oh?

[Daughter]: Yeah! Joe was taking lessons with the MPI Driver Z program, but honestly, he could use more practice. And let’s face it—I don’t have the time or the nerve to take him out for a spin myself! (pauses dramatically) Remember that time you tried to teach me? You only successfully taught me how to scream “Brake!” at the top of your lungs!

[Granddad]: (laughing) True! So, driving lessons, it is then! A2Z Driving School, pick up the phone; I need a gift card TODAY!

Call or text us today at 204-209-1229 for your holiday gift.
