Amateur Radio Field Day at 598 St. Mary's Rd, Sat June 28

Amateur radio is 2-way communication done for fun, technical enrichment, community service and emergency preparedness.

Also known as "ham" radio, certified amateurs have access to a variety of equipment and frequencies for local, regional, and global communication.

Field Day is an annual exercise in Canada, the US, and around the world where many amateurs operate their radios from field locations with backup power. Some locations also functions as an "open house" where members of the public can see this in action.

This year, public field day events are available at many places in southern Manitoba.

You are invited to the club station WSC, 598 St Mary's Road on Saturday June 28 between 1pm and 2am. This is the old fire hall at the intersection of St Mary's and St Anne's roads. In the afternoon watch experienced operators handle a busy radio. In the evening, our "get on the air" party will provide time for folks without experience and other entertainment.

Saturday Evening (6 PM - 11 PM): Free, dry reception with DJ sets, video games, and tabletop gaming.

Sunday, May 4th (1 PM - 5 PM): Relaxed open house with a music jam (bring your instruments!), exhibits, and gaming.

We have our newly renovated space / dance floor, a brand new mural by Deborah Elizabeth along with meet and greet at 11:30PM, the return of the Skullotron indie video game arcade machine, a brand new stage and dance floor production by Brett, a super smash bros. drink challenge, and of course a few drinks for sale. As well, we will be setting up a two player old-school LAN with the greatest games from the 90s and 2000s.
