2025 Provincials Training Program

We are excited to announce the third year of our Provincials Training Program, designed to
enhance tournament knowledge and prepare players for the 2025 Manitoba Provincial Chess
Championship.
Led by National Master Theo Wolchock, this five-week program features five online
classes covering key topics important for tournament success, and an online rapid
tournament, playing one round after each class. Included in the five classes is a special guest
lecture from National Master and former Manitoba Champion, Isaac Wiebe!

Online Classes:
There will be five online classes held over Zoom (link provided after registration). Each class will
focus on a different topic and include various positions for students to solve. Homework and
suggested study materials will be given after each session.
 Class 1: Thursday February 13 th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM (Opening Strategies/Preparation)
 Class 2: Thursday February 20 th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM (Calculation/Tactics)
 Class 3: Saturday February 22 nd | 1:00 - 2:00 PM (Guest Lecture from NM Isaac
Wiebe)
 Class 4: Thursday March 6 th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM (Endgame
Strategies/Technique)
 Class 5: Thursday March 13 th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM (Tournament Psychology)
Online Rapid Tournament:
To reinforce what is taught in class, students will participate in an online rapid tournament
throughout the program. The tournament will consist of five rounds with one round played after
each online class. This will give students a chance to play against each other and practice the
same time control used at the provincial championship.
 Round 1: Thursday February 13th | 7:15 PM
 Round 2: Thursday February 20th | 7:15 PM
 Round 3: Saturday February 22nd | 2:15 PM
 Round 4: Thursday March 6th | 7:15 PM
 Round 5: Thursday March 13th | 7:15 PM
Program Cost:
$99 + GST for all five classes and the online tournament
