We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $30,000 Recreation Facility Capital Investment Project grant from the West Hants Regional Municipality in support of our school playground project — and a $2,500 Community Trail Funding Grant toward our community trail project!

This funding marks an exciting milestone for our students and families, helping us move closer to creating a safe and accessible outdoor space for play, learning, and community connection.

Our deepest appreciation goes to the dedicated members of the Home and School Committee, especially the grant subcommittee, whose commitment and hard work made these achievements possible.

We also extend a major shout‑out to our supporters:

- Kathy Kehoe, Director of Community Development

They attended meetings and provided guidance, encouragement, and support as we explored funding opportunities both within and beyond our community.

Big News! 💚💜

We’re excited to share that we’ve received a $12,500 Free to Play grant from the Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia (RCFNS) to support our playground project!

The Free to Play fund helps communities create more opportunities for child-led outdoor play — giving kids space to explore, imagine, take healthy risks, and just be kids. This grant will help us reduce barriers to outdoor play, support children’s well-being, and build a community culture that values time outside.

We’re so grateful to RCFNS for investing in rural communities and believing in the power of outdoor play. Big things are ahead for our playground!

Someone has been very busy picking weeds in the school garden🪏. Thank you Stanley and your mom for all your hard work. The prize at the end was some perfect red raspberries.

🌱 The School Vegetable Garden Needs Your Help! 🌱

Our beautiful school garden is growing fast, but with school ending, it will need a little extra love and maintenance to keep it thriving over the summer!

We are looking for volunteers—parents, students, or community members—who can pitch in with:
Weeding to give our plants room to grow 🌿
Watering to keep everything hydrated during the warmer days 💧Harvesting/Picking delicious, fresh vegetables when they are ready 🥕🍅

Whether you can spare an hour a week or just want to help out occasionally, every bit makes a huge difference!

Falmouth District School Playground Project

This summer, we’ll begin Phase 1 of our playground project — a safe, accessible bike & walking trail looping around the school grounds. The new trail will link classrooms, playgrounds, outdoor learning areas, and the woods behind the school, creating space for track & field activities, the school biking program, and year‑round community use.

As we secure funding, we’ll move through each phase:
- Phase 1: Bike & Walking Trail — construction planned to begin this summer
- Phase 2: Inclusive Playground Spinner and GaGa Pit
- Phase 3: New Inclusive Playground — a vibrant, accessible play space where every child can climb, slide, and explore together

Each phase will move forward as funding becomes available, bringing us closer to a fully connected, inclusive outdoor campus for our students and community. 💚💜

Falmouth Home & School – Year in Review

Last night we held our final meeting of the 2025–2026 school year, and it gave us a moment to reflect on the work we’ve done together.

Since restarting last year, this committee has been grounded in three core pillars: Fundraising, Events, and Community. Here’s what we achieved in each area this year.

Fundraising
Our fundraising efforts remained strong and steady, helping us support projects big and small throughout the school. Over the past two years, we have raised almost $30,000 together.

This year we also established a Grant Subcommittee, which has helped us pursue larger opportunities and make progress toward our long‑term goals of a new playground and a walking/biking trail. Exciting announcements coming soon!

School Events
Events are at the heart of how we build connection and make memories for the kids. This year we delivered:

- Halloween & Valentine’s Dance
- Pizza & Movie Night
- Bingo Night
- Ice Cream Social
- Spring Clean Up
- Spring Fling Carnival

These events brought families together, strengthened school spirit, and created moments our students will remember.

Community Support
Our commitment to caring for families continued to grow:

- The Food Pantry and Community Closet supported families year‑round
- A fun Clothing Swap for students
- Teacher Appreciation days
- Donations to support families during the holidays and staff in times of need
- Strengthened partnerships with community representatives, members, and organizations
- Outdoor enhancements including new picnic tables, a mud kitchen, woods‑area improvements and toys, and sleds for winter play
- School Trip Expenses

These initiatives helped ensure that everyone in our community feels supported, included, and cared for.

Looking Ahead

The committee’s steady effort has built a strong foundation for growth. With the playground and trail project underway, new grants on the horizon, and deepening community partnerships, the year ahead promises to turn vision into reality.

Thank you to every volunteer, staff member, parent, guardian, and community partner who helped make this year possible. Your time, energy, and heart are what keep this committee strong.
