Small actions can make a big difference when supporting a child with depression. Encourage open conversations, maintain consistent routines, and help your child engage in activities they enjoy. Even small daily steps can boost mood, confidence, and resilience.

At High Altitude Tutoring, we know that emotional well-being is just as important as academic success — and creating a supportive environment helps children thrive.

We’re thrilled to welcome Bonita to the High Altitude Tutoring team! Bonita holds a PhD, MA, Diploma in Special Education, BEd, and BA, with advanced degrees in Educational and Counselling Psychology and Special Education from UBC.

Bonita specializes in helping students develop a deep, lasting understanding of math — not just how to get the answer, but why it works. She’s also passionate about supporting strong, clear writing by teaching the skills and strategies that make ideas land with confidence.

In addition to working directly with students, Bonita also teaches and mentors educators, helping them strengthen their math instruction and support diverse learners.

When she’s not tutoring, you’ll find Bonita embracing her new Whistler chapter — skiing, biking, and soaking up life in the mountains she now calls home.

Welcome to the team, Bonita!

At High Altitude Tutoring, we know that learning is deeply connected to emotional well-being. As the days get shorter and the sunshine dips behind the mountains a little earlier, it’s especially important to understand how seasonal changes can affect kids’ moods.

Depression in children is more common than many people realize, and knowing what it is, how it shows up, and what to watch for helps us, parents, and educators support kids with empathy and confidence. A little awareness goes a long way in helping every child feel grounded both emotionally and academically.

Small steps can make a big difference for children coping with anxiety. Consistent routines, calm role-modelling, and focusing on effort over perfection all help kids build confidence and emotional resilience.

At High Altitude Tutoring, we know that children learn best when they feel safe and supported — emotionally and academically.

At High Altitude Tutoring, we understand that learning is about more than academics — it’s also about feeling safe, supported, and understood.

Anxiety is the most common mental health challenge among children and youth in Canada. By learning what it looks like, how often it occurs, and how it affects daily life, parents and educators can better support children both in and out of the classroom.

At High Altitude Tutoring, we believe learning and mental health go hand in hand. That’s why we’re so excited to see Sea-to-Sky schools welcoming the Kind Mind program from the Kelty Foundation.

This program is designed to help students build tools for emotional regulation, self-compassion, and resilience — skills that are just as important as math or reading to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

We’re grateful to see mental health support in our community and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our students and families.

This Remembrance Day, we honour those who served and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today — including the freedom to learn, grow, and dream.

At High Altitude Tutoring, we honour the legacy of our brave soldiers through education. We are committed to nurturing the curious, compassionate world they envisioned and fought to protect.
