NRHS Options and Opportunities

NRHS Alumni Emma Hines came in to present about Green Careers and students built a net-zero house!

O2 Students enjoyed a hands on day at NSCS Trades Exhibition Hall in Halifax!

Just a reminder that O2 Application Forms are available from Ms. St. John in Room 1006. The new deadline for applications will be March 19.

Students in the O2 Program did an ice cream fundraiser for the Pictou County Food Bank East. Students raised a total of $302.50. Students pictured below Haylee Mattia, Miley DeYoung, and Ray McClellan dopped off the donation today! If anyone has the opportunity and means to donate, check out their website for some of the most needed items or to make a monetary donation.

O2 students did a collaboration day with Culinary Skilled Trades (Mr. Heighton) and the Karma Closet. Breakfast for lunch was the menu and we fed over 210 people a free lunch!

O2 students attended a presentation from Swish Goswami, the CEO of Surf and Startup Canada's Young Entrepreneur of the Year! This presentation was hosted by Pictou Academy Educational Foundation(PAEF) and the deCoste Performing Arts Centre. https://www.speakers.ca/speakers/swish-goswami/

O2 students travelled to the NSCC Truro Campus to explore post-secondary career options. Students had a tour of the campus, tried out Foresty simulators, relaxed in the gaming lounge, watched demonstrations from law & security, criminal justice, and practical nursing. Students had a chance to view on campus housing and ask questions about admissions and all other programs.

What exactly is the O2 (Options and Opportunities) Program?

The O2 program combines academic work with practical community-based learning experiences including:

field trips
guest speakers
service learning
job shadows
post-secondary exploration
a minimum of three Co-operative Education (Co-op) placements
This program focuses on helping students make informed decisions about their education and career pathways.
