It's been a minute or two since I posted on this page, but I think it's time to reboot!!
Teacher Friends (and Postie friends too) I stand in solidarity with you!! You deserve more for the work you do!!
As an ally, I will continue to support my student-clients and help any families looking for guidance and support during this strike. If that means taking on more students, who need skill support or a structured routine, or simply sharing resources, I'm here.
I am NOT replacing teachers. I'm a TUTOR. I SUPPORT AND SUPPLEMENT. I don't work in a public classroom for many of the reasons that the current teachers are striking for. Kids come to me because one human can not meet the needs of 30+ knowledge-hungry, developing humans at one time. Even with 5 aides in a classroom. There needs to be change!
If you need help, message me. I can direct you to many amazing (and usually free) resources. There are government "aids" in place as well to help with some of the costs. (Why not just give it to the teachers??? **shakes head**)
Also, my brilliant friend, Kara Maciborski has some pretty amazing posts in the last few days. Pop over and visit her! She's a homeschool Mama and has been doing some research. She has more time, so go read what she has for support/suggestions!
As far as what school at home looks like... it absolutely DOES NOT look like a desk, chair, workbooks and bells.
Let your kids relax and do the things they love. Limit screens, kick them outside as long as the weather holds. Do family stuff. Do chores. Start a project. HAVE FUN.
And, buy lots of snacks. You'll need them.
