Storm season is not finished with us.
July already showed the region what a bad night looks like. Hydro One had about 170,000 customers out at the peak of the July 1 storms. About 143,000 were still out at five the next morning.
August and September can serve up the same setup. Warm humid afternoons, fast moving cells, branches into lines.
Most storms pass with nothing worse than a rattled bird feeder. Prepared houses just never have to find out which kind it is.

Something we say on every job: you own all of it.
You own the equipment. You own the manuals, the paperwork and the warranty registration. If you ever sell the house, it all goes to the next owner with it.
We are not holding anything back to keep you calling us. If you want another company to service the unit in five years, the file is yours.
We would rather earn the next call than lock you into it.
Sixteen years of working that way, right here in Wellesley.

Crews restore the biggest outages first. That is the right call. It is also bad news if you live down a rural road.
Days after the July 1 storms, Hydro One's Guelph service area still had just over 5,000 customers without power. Roughly 4,450 of them were around Belwood, Erin and Guelph and Eramosa. Small clusters, long driveways, long waits.
If your address sits at the end of a long line of poles, you are near the back of the queue by simple math.
A generator takes you out of that queue completely.

What install day actually looks like, step by step.
1. We set the concrete pad and place the unit.
2. We run the electrical from your panel and mount the transfer switch beside it.
3. We make the gas line connection.
4. We terminate and label all the wiring.
5. Startup, load test, then the inspection to code.
6. A full walkthrough, so you know how it starts and what the weekly self test does.
Most installs take a full day, sometimes more if the panel needs work first. You get the manuals and the warranty paperwork before we leave.
No mystery and no mess left behind. Send us a message and we will map it out for your home.

How loud is a standby generator? Quieter than most people expect.
A modern unit under load sounds a lot like a central air conditioner running. You notice it in the yard. Inside the house, most families barely register it.
Placement matters more than the spec sheet. We site the unit with the clearances it needs, away from bedrooms where the lot allows, on a level pad that does not amplify vibration.
Noise comes up on nearly every assessment. It is almost never the reason someone says no.

Friday thought from a family run shop.
The best part of this job is not the equipment. It is the phone call after the first outage.
A client tells us the lights blinked once. The kids never woke up. Nobody went hunting for candles. That is the entire point of the machine.
Sixteen years in and that call still makes our week.
Have a good weekend, Waterloo Region. If a storm rolls through, we hope your house barely notices.
Call or text (519) 503-9010 if you would like it to stay that way.

Generac Certified Technicians. What does that actually mean for you?
It means factory training on the equipment we install. It means direct access to technical support and to parts. And it means warranty work is handled by the same local crew that did your install.
That last part matters most. Plenty of contractors can bolt a generator to a pad. Fewer are still the people you call three winters later.
We have been doing this across Waterloo Region and Guelph for 16 years. Licensed and insured, licence 7007859.

Your standby generator tests itself while you are at work.
Once a week it starts on its own, runs a few minutes and shuts back down. It is checking the battery, the fuel feed and the starter. Same idea as warming up a car you rarely drive.
That short weekly run is why a standby unit fires up on a January night after months of sitting.
We set the test day and time at startup. Most people pick a weekday mid morning, so nobody in the house even notices.
It is a small thing that quietly does a lot.

What is actually in a generator quote? Fair question. Here is ours, in plain terms.
The generator, sized to the circuits you picked. The transfer switch. The concrete pad. The electrical work from your panel to the unit. The gas line connection. The inspection to code. The startup and the walkthrough.
That is the list. There is no line called miscellaneous.
If a quote you are comparing comes in much cheaper, ask which of those items is missing. Usually one or two are.
Ours comes in writing after a free assessment. You read it at your own kitchen table with nobody standing over you.

Here is the outage problem nobody mentions until it happens. No power means no water.
If your home runs on a well, the pump is electric. When the power stops, the taps stop with it.
It played out here in July. Outages dragged on after the July 1 storms. The Town of Erin opened a water fill up site at the Hillsburgh fire station, so residents could haul water home.
A standby generator keeps the well pump running. Showers, toilets, coffee, all of it.
For rural and small town homes, that one circuit changes the whole outage.
