I’ve wanted to record Michael Oesch for awhile now. Ever since seeing his story on the big screen in “Why can’t we talk about this?” by Rainey Media, he’s been right at the top of my list of phenomenal people.
​Meeting him in person was every bit as striking as I hoped. His candor, his way of talking, and his absolute realness make him such an inspiring human to be around. On the drive home, listening back to the recording, all I could picture was Michael standing in front of an auditorium full of people of all ages, teaching Storytelling 101 and handling a rapid-fire barrage of questions from people who came just to be inspired by him.
​Usually, my style leans heavily into the funny bone. But with this piece, it just didn't feel right. While it still has its moments—and I definitely had fun with the voiceovers—this one is meant to move you.
​Thank you, Michael, for keeping it real. Your courage is a true testament to the human spirit. I hope this makes you smile—you certainly made me smile.

Admit it, you have at least three recordings of your grandpa telling that one war story, and they're all named something like "New Recording 7".

He literally fought in a World War. He deserves better than the default Apple audio app treatment. We take those raw, chaotic iPhone recordings and produce them into an authentic, crackling 1940s radio show. Sound effects, music, the whole nine yards.

I started Echoes of the Past Studio to turn family stories into vintage 1940s-style radio broadcasts. I did not realize I was opening a confessional for the most chaotic generation to ever live.
