Just had a very sweet visit with my parents who came to visit on the island. We went and saw the new danielmovie.official which was amazing!! Have you seen it? It’s the biblical story of Daniel and the Fiery Furnace 🔥 We also made raw milk ice cream (banana, mixed berry, and lemon) and plum crisp from their trees back home. We had probably close to 60 pounds of fruit to use up quickly, so we tried making fruit leather and juiced a bunch as well and it all turned out delicious. I’m still yet to start on the jam. It was a very productive homesteady visit and I’m excited to see them again soon

What is a beekeeping memory that really stands out to you?
I have so many, but one of mine happened the moment I landed on Niue Tourism 💛
Before I had even made it out of the airport, I met two men who had also worked with Brainy Bee Honey in Kelowna years earlier, not as beekeepers but for a videography project (from memory). They were from BC, I’m from BC, and we had all crossed paths with the same small-scale beekeeping family in the Okanagan! And somehow, we ended up arriving on the same tiny island in the middle of the South Pacific at the same time.
Niue, known as “the Rock of Polynesia” or, “the rock of the pacific ,” has less than 2,000 people living there. I was there with Niue Honey Company to see their varroa free honeybees, so I already knew this was going to be a really special beekeeping adventure. But I never expected my first encounter on the island to be with people connected to my beekeeping community back home in BC.
The odds of that kind of connection must be so tiny.
Beekeeping has somehow made my world feel both so much bigger and so much smaller at the same time. It has taken me to places I never imagined I’d go, while constantly reminding me just how interconnected this little beekeeping world really is. 🇳🇺 🐝 🏝️
