Do I need IELTS to enter Canada.??

This is the question most Sri Lankans ask when they think about coming to Canada...

The answer is … YES....a big YES

The only ways to enter Canada without IELTS are
1. Family sponsorship (You can sponsor your parents/children without IELTS if you are a Canadian Citizen/PR Holder)
2. Dependent VISA for a spouse when you are studying in Canada/ Working on a work permit(open and closed)
3. Work permit for certain job categories. (Machinists, Cook/Kitchen workers, Physical laborers, etc.)
4. Visit VISA (e.g. for minor children of student/work permit holders)

There are several clickbait youtube videos and Instagram posts all over the internet about getting a job in Canada without IELTS, interviews, and without proof of funds. Please stay away from those. There is no way you can land a Job without an Interview and English proficiency. Yes...You can obtain a work permit without IELTS but that requires interviews, a job offer, and LMIA approval (Labor market impact assessment). Certain provinces have streams to hire temporary foreign workers for specific jobs (e.g. New Brunswick has similar program where they will provide language training, settlement support, etc. but it's limited to a few employers only)

This LMIA is no joke. It requires time and effort from the employer in Canada to obtain in order to offer you the job. Please note that the LMIA is not that costly. In simple words, the employer must prove that there are no Canadian workers for the specific Job and they need a temporary foreign worker to fulfill the job. So if anyone asks you to pay for LMIA .. it's a scam.

If you are skilled enough you can apply for a work permit with a job offer and without LMIA however, it's unlikely a Canadian employer will prefer a foreign worker when there are so many in Canada itself. Most of the Job recruiters filter your application based on your current residence and availability of a work permit. Note most of the time the application filtering is AI-based and the moment you enter Sri Lanka as your place of residence and NO to the work permit availability your application will be rejected.

Finally, the goal is to get a PR whether you are a Student or on a work permit. You have to prove your English proficiency when applying for PR for that IELTS IS REQUIRED. PTE is another option but the official announcement to accept the same is yet to come.
