Q***r BIPOC media arts collective producing intersectional / intergenerational film & artwork

Love Intersections is a media arts collective made up of q***r artists of colour dedicated to using collaborative art making and relational storytelling to address systemic racism in our communities. We produce intersectional and intergenerational stories from underrepresented communities of colour – centering the invisible, the spiritual, the metaphysical and the imaginary. We believe in deep and meaningful relationships, that intersectionality is a verb and a call to action, that we must cultivate social trust through collective care and community responsibility. Our desire is to provoke (he)artful social change through a lens of love.

Our friends at Migrant Workers Centre are raising funds to support workers affected by the wildfires. Donate at this link: https://chuffed.org/project/194558-migrant-worker-wildfire-relief-fund

Over 8000 migrant workers are located in the Okanagan and power BC’s agriculture industry. They often live in substandard and overcrowded housing.

These workers are being evacuated with thousands of their neighbours, but many of the supports and relief efforts are not available to them. The fires also deprive them of their ability to earn income and support their families across the world.

Donations will go to supporting evacuation, housing, food, and emergency funding for displaced migrant workers. The fund is being coordinated by Migrant Worker advocates who are currently providing support at evacuation centres in the Okanagan.

“At a time when anti-migrant sentiment is rising in Canada, ‘Beyond Borders, Between Stories’ brings together the voices, experiences, and knowledge of 16 migrant workers who participated in a one-day community workshop led by Love Intersections in partnership with the Migrant Workers Centre .bc

Through shared meals, conversation, and collective storytelling, workers reflected on the realities of migrant work while dreaming about futures. Their amalgamated stories became the foundation for this public artwork, which honours the labour, care, resilience, and often unseen contributions of migrant communities in Canada.

Rather than speaking for migrant workers, this artwork emerges from their own lived experiences. It invites viewers to consider the people whose labour sustains our homes, food systems, workplaces, and communities, and to recognize the dignity and dreams they carry across borders.”

This project was created in partnership with the Migrant Workers Centre and funded in part by Heritage Canada, the HSA Equity and Social Action Fund, BC Arts Council, and the City of Vancouver.

Join us to watch the Q***r Cinema for Palestine 2026 programming!

Q***r Cinema for Palestine is a solidarity initiative offering artists the opportunity to use art to oppose the ongoing violence of israeli occupation and apartheid against Palestinians. This year’s event is co-organized by Q***r Cinema for Palestine and the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), and features over 300 screenings in nearly 60 countries.

This year’s short films focus on the work of q***r, Palestinian, and allied artists, in historic Palestine and the diaspora, to highlight art’s position in resistance and the struggle for liberation. You can learn more about each film through the link in ***rcinema4palestine bio.

We are honoured to be joined for this screening by organizers from , who will be generously sharing a segment of their film From the Salish Sea to Palestine, and by filmmaker, author, and Entertainment Labor for Palestine organizer Ziyad Saadi.

How can we draw on histories of collective care taking and mutual aid, as a means to build community in at a time of multiple and ongoing genocides? Guest bios:

Jocelyn’s passion for seasonal food, social justice, creativity, and community is rooted in a childhood spent on the Kansas plains. Her family would sing a song before sharing a soulful meal. Since then, Jocelyn has practiced law, taught environmental science and ethics, become a yoga instructor, and created performance and visual art. Jocelyn founded JUSTUS KITCHEN to continue to create food experiences that inspire people to reconnect with themselves, the earth, and one another. And she still begins every meal with a song.

People’s Kitchen Collective (PKC) works at the intersection of art and activism as a food-centered political education project. Based in Oakland, California, our creative practices reflect the diverse histories and backgrounds of our crew. Written in our families’ recipes are the maps of our migrations and the stories of our resilience. It is from this foundation that we create immersive experiences that honor the shared struggles of our people. We believe in radical hospitality as a strategy to address the urgent social issues of our time.

It’s been a big past few months for ❤️

We wrapped our “Beyond Borders: Between Stories” event series with our amazing collaborators and partners, including a figure drawing event with , an event on migrant justice, and a collective poetry and art making workshop centering stories of q***r Sikh, muslim and South Asian youth and allies. Thank you to for facilitating a food and sensory activity, and to for leading us in a collective poetry exercise.

We also celebrated our 12 year anniversary, with a new operating grant from the City of Vancouver! We are grateful to be trusted with multi-year funding, so that we can continue to cultivate projects that serve community needs. We can’t wait to share what we have in store over the next year.

We launched a new art project today with our friends at the Migrant Workers Centre (.bc ), where we will be releasing a series of public art pieces during FIFA, on the topic of migrant justice. Thank you to all the awesome people who came out today to share powerful stories of their lived experiences as migrant workers here in so-called Canada ❤️❤️❤️

“Beyond Borders, Between Stories: Figure Drawing workshop” is an experimental, embodied, and experiential centered figure drawing workshop facilitated by painter and movement artist Odera Igbokwe. In this workshop participants have the opportunity to draw the figure in the classic format of gesture drawings and long poses of the n**e and the draped figure. Additionally participants can experience and exercise their relationship to their own bodies and their drawing practice.

This figure drawing workshop honours the history of artist as muse, while envisioning collaborative futurities where artists and creatives expand the possibility of drawing while diffusing hierarchies and archetypal power dynamics.

No prior art experience is needed.
