Learning often begins with curiosity.✨ It can also become a way to better understand the world around us and the systems we navigate every day.
For Kelly Chhor, the UBC Certificate in Equity Diversity and Inclusion offered space to reflect, ask deeper questions and connect personal experiences to meaningful change. Through the program, Kelly gained practical tools, new perspectives and the confidence to contribute to conversations about equity and belonging in both professional and community spaces.
As we wrap up this month’s Learning That Fits Real Life series, we are highlighting how learning can support growth beyond career goals by creating opportunities for reflection, connection and impact.

A lot of learning is tied to outcomes.
A better job. A stronger resume. A specific goal. But not all learning needs to be productive in that way.
Sometimes, it starts with a small moment of curiosity; a topic you keep coming back to, a skill you’ve always wanted to try or something that simply interests you.
When you follow that curiosity, learning feels different. Less forced. More engaging. Easier to stick with.
And often, more meaningful in the long run.
This is your reminder that it’s okay to learn something just because you want to.
✨ What’s something you’re curious about right now?

UBC is working to restore access to Canvas, our Learning Management System, following last week’s cyber incident. Some Extended Learning students could get access as early as today.
Students should continue to check their email for updates and instructions from instructors or staff. Those students in courses that were moved to an alternative Learning Management System will continue in that platform until completion of their course.

Summer learning is often framed as catching up or getting ahead. But it doesn’t have to be either.
It can be slower. Lighter. More open-ended.
A chance to explore something you’ve been curious about without worrying about outcomes, timelines or expectations.
When learning feels low-pressure, something shifts.
You engage more naturally. You stay with it longer. You enjoy the process. And sometimes, that’s where the most meaningful learning happens.
This summer, try approaching learning differently.
Not as something you have to do, but something you get to explore.
🌱 What’s something you’ve been curious about lately?
