Growth in mathematics happens step by step.

That is why Math Circles follows a connected seven-level curriculum designed to grow with students as their understanding develops and they become ready for new challenges.

Students begin by strengthening core concepts and learning to model challenging problems. As they progress, they explore deeper reasoning, proof, functions, trigonometry, and eventually university-level calculus. Each stage builds on the one before it, creating a clear path from strong foundations to advanced mathematics.

Throughout the program, students learn to understand concepts, think logically, communicate mathematically, and approach complex problems with confidence. New students are placed according to their mathematical readiness, helping them receive an appropriate balance of support and challenge.

What actually happens inside a Math Circles classroom?

At Math Potentials, our students don’t simply watch a teacher solve problems. They are encouraged to think, question, explain, and participate.

For instance, a student might model a challenging word problem, present a solution to the class, compare their approach with someone else’s, or discover another way to reach the same result. Through these experiences, students strengthen not only their mathematical knowledge, but also their reasoning, communication, and confidence.

Science Circles is Math Potential's hands-on physics enrichment program that connects mathematics with the world around us. Through experiments, projects, data-collection sensors, simulations, videos, and smartphone technology, students explore topics such as motion, forces, energy, light, and space.

Along the way, students learn to ask thoughtful questions, collaborate with others, and explain their discoveries with confidence. With entry points for students in Grades 6-11, Science Circles helps curious learners experience the excitement of thinking and working like young scientists.

Math Circles gives curious students the opportunity to explore meaningful problems, discuss different strategies, and develop their own mathematical reasoning.

In the Alpha and Beta levels, students learn to:

✓ Model challenging problems using diagrams

✓ Work through solutions logically

✓ Explain how and why their methods work

✓ Consider alternative approaches from classmates

✓ Persevere when the answer is not immediately clear

Math Circles is a full-year enrichment program focused on conceptual understanding, communication, and problem-solving. Our foundational Alpha and Beta courses for students in Grades 5-7 draw from the Singapore Math Curriculum and are taught by subject specialists with degrees in mathematics or closely related fields.

It started with a simple observation.

Too many bright, capable students were entering university without the depth of understanding or thinking skills they needed to thrive. They had the potential but had never been challenged enough to think critically, learn conceptually, or connect ideas.

When Dr. Natasa Sirotic and Dr. Klaus Hoechsmann founded Math Potentials, they set out to change that. They believed that, if properly nurtured, every student can build strong problem-solving and thinking skills that empower them to succeed with confidence in higher studies and future careers.

That belief became the foundation for everything we do today. Through our Math Circles program and The Math Potentials Growth Path, students move beyond memorization to develop mathematical thinking.

Since starting with two small classes in 2000 to working with 100’s of students each year, our mission remains the same.

Many bright students lose confidence or interest when school math doesn’t challenge them enough. They start coasting, memorizing steps instead of understanding ideas, and that can quietly hold them back later when real problem-solving and independent thinking matter most.
